RE: Space Navigator - Save Scene
Ok I found them. These 2 scripts are exclusive - meaning they can not be installed at the same time because they share the same method names. They both do the same thing.
You need to create a folder named:
c;\su\images\or modify the script to use another folder.
Usage : adds 'Start Recording' 'Stop Recording' to plugins menu
Select the start recording, then go about modeling as usual. SU will
record a jpg image everytime the view is refreshed, ie. whenever an entity added
or simply orbit, pan operation is done. You can collect the numbered images and make movie
using 'windows movie maker'.
limitations : Target folder is hard coded, something similar may be already outhere.

RE: Space Navigator - Save Scene
There is a script out there (somewhere) that uses Observers to save an image every time the view is updated. There was a version for SU 5 also, which would need to be timer-based since it did not have Observers. I'll have to look for it.

RE: Super Autosave Archiver...
CadFather,
That's a good idea. SketchUp already is autosaving the file at some interval. I wonder on a large model if the autosave would cause SketchUp to be unusable during the save? Or if it would interfere in any way with the built-in autosave?
azuby,
Wouldn't UI.start_timer work? Have a dialog to set the interval, enable, and disable the autosave. Start a timer, save on time-out, restart timer? It seems like a viable solution, and simpler than threads.
Edit: Ok, I see where the built-in autosave can be diabled.

Script Versions/Revisions
How do script writers manage script versions? Is there generally accepted numbering system?

Menus Manager
Is it worth working on a PluginMenuManager, similar to ExtensionManager for the Plugin menu? Will the next version of SketchUp have better menu support?
-
RE: Export a SketchUp file
You could also use a "master" scene that would reset the model when selected. And there is the File > Revert menu option, which will revert the model back to the state when first opened.

RE: Export a SketchUp file
Dennis,
Absolutely this can be done. Can you be a little more specific about what you want to save 15 times? Is it simply different scenes? Different parts of the model?

RE: SketchUp Life
Hi Juju,
I don't see what what you mean in the plugins section, but that's probably my fault. I didn't talk enough about the possibility of a shared experience. Modern 3d engines have a lot of nice features - voice communications, lighting, textures, ambient sounds, real world physics, and all in a multi-user environment. Giving a tour of your model to clients is only one potential use of the technology.

SketchUp Life
Does anyone know of an engine, or application similar to 2nd Life where SketchUp models could be uploaded, and then could be explored using an avatar?
I'm thinking mostly of a gallery. Instead of downloading the model to SketchUp, you explore the model in a virtual world. One advantage, assuming a multi-user environment, would be the shared experience. You could lead a tour of the model, for example.
I know it's not a new or unique idea, but I haven't been able to find the right combination of applications and workflow to make it work.

RE: Pro export for me?
Thanks solo.
Deep Exploration looks nice. Maybe they'll give me a copy so I can write a review of it.

RE: Why don't more people use SketchUp to place 3D components?
I'm short on time, so this is really a rough draft.
I think it's not so easy to create convincing interiors. It takes more than drawing a box and placing some furniture in it to make it work.
The models for an interior need to be higher quality than the average 3d warehouse model. Unless you use high-segment arcs, you are going to see individual segments simply because the camera needs to be closer for an interior scene.
It's hard to "mesh" SketchUp's sketchy style with photo-realistic textures.
One major deficiency is interior lighting. Lighting is a much larger part of the interior design experience than exterior. On exteriors, there's usually only 1 light source of concern.
Because of these points, your best option is to generate a photo-realistic render. But that brings another level of complexity to the process.
I'm not convinced SketchUp is as easy to use as I keep hearing.

My wife complains about the noise, not the light coming from my little corner of the room. Funny, I don't hear anything...

IFC 2 SKP Importer for SketchUp
Here's a new plugin from OhYeahCad:
@unknownuser said:
IFC2SKP Beta version is a plug-in for Google SketchUp 6. This application works inside SketchUp and has the ability to load IFC data from popular BIM (CAD) applications such as ArchiCAD, Revit and Microstation. The plug-in will not only load the geometry or object data into SketchUp from the IFC file format but it will also display the BIM data of each imported objects.
