I know that only Sketchup pro 2015 is 64 bit and should work 4 times faster or host models 4 times larger on a quad core than the 32bit version. But does it? Can anyone who's used the 64 bit version say how much better it is.

I'm thinking of upgrading to pro as I work with 120 mb models, and like the idea of using my current workflow to perhaps work 4 times faster or work on 480 mb models.

      sketchup make is also 64bit.
64 bit is nothing to do with the amount of cores available.. for all intents and purposes, it means sketchup can use more ram..

there are very few circumstances in which sketchup will run out of ram.. if you were hitting those limits in the past, you'll notice a difference with 64bit sketchup.. if you weren't hitting those limits (and really, you probably weren't), you won't notice a change.

aww.. no need to apologize. I mean, you weren't being lame or mean or anything like that.

idk, sometimes the web (or anywhere really) can be weird with people who don't really know each other but with me at least, we can definitely be in disagreement without being confrontational/foes.

All this time that was it??? Yes, I always use list view. What use are those icons? I guess they are useful if you want to SAVE a file! Don't know whether to cry or laugh.

      .

glad its working (sort of) now for you. this behavior should probably be brought to the developers attention so they can either make it work with all views or at least document it in the user's manuals.

I'll send them something when I get more time to make a clear description.

      add-
what's sort of weird is that I do generally use the list view when going through my folders looking for particular styles.. it's just that I've never been in the wrong setting/wrong time while saving a style to notice this before.. so I guess it's just been luck for me this whole time. πŸ˜„

no.. it was a hoax.. maybe 8" of snow here..

i'm sure the news people who hyped all this up in the first place will find some crap town in eastern vermont where it dropped 28" and broadcast "over two feet of snow!!! snowmaggedon really happened!! it's the snowpocalypse!!" :0

The modeling looks ok, but, for me, the textures detract from the model, they are just not realistic. Can you show it without the textures?

just for sake of discussion.. i like when things aren't photoreal.. or, non-photorealistic is a means of artistic expression where as aiming for photorealistic doesn't have that since the goal is simply to make it look like a photograph.. at some point, photorealism becomes more of a technical skill as opposed to an expressive one.

of course, this isn't a hard-edged rule.. some npr can look gaudy or simply lack of skill.. in this case however, i (personally) think i like the look of the truck better than if it looked exactly like a picture of the truck in real life.

Posting a thread where a proper discussion can take place without the "banned" negativity would be far more productive in my humble opinion.

Not that it matters but I personally don't understand how you could choose to put these two things together.

because the way the power$-that-be are going to (or- are) controlling piracy is via criminalization and censorship of the internet.. and we need to be REAL carefully with agreeing with their stance as it's just furthering the whole patriot act/NSA spying thing..

there are some points in the documentary that do address stuff brought up in the thread (such as 'stealing is stealing').. things i feel are worth reconsideration or reevaluation of.

the documentary also revolves around copyright law and the hoarding of knowledge/information for monetary gains.

i don't know.. i just think it's relevant but i don't know how to (or if i should be) sales pitching the thing.. just sharing it is all..

but the first reviewer on the imbd seems to see relevancy as well:
"In the age of piracy, SOPA, and net neutrality, this is a must see."

if it's of no relevancy to you then no biggie.. it will probably be interesting to someone else.

the first thing i notice (and this appears to be buggy sketchup and not user error)..

the 'unable to save' error is only happening to me when viewing the styles dialog in List View.. if i'm viewing Small or Large Thumbnails, everything works as expected.

so peter, do you have your styles dialog set to list view by any chance?

and at anybody else- can you repeat the behavior i've loosely outlined above? (loosely because i haven't really figured out the ins&outs of it yet.. saving from list view does appear to work at certain times.. maybe after a successful save has been made in thumbnail views?)

      it's a bug and it's reproduce_able.. i'll report it.

it's happening when trying to drag&drop a style into the default Styles folder or subfolder (the one in .app/contents)

@Jeff I get my User path, because I have a Styles Folder in there...

ah.. ok..if i change one of my styles folders to 'Styles' then yeah, that's the path given via ruby..

i normally have two custom style folders in SketchUp.. one is called downloaded and one is called steez (and they've been coming along with me since way back.. maybe su6 or so).. i've just always saved to those folders.

anyway.. i just tried saving directly to the renamed 'Styles' folder and got a bug splat.. on my way to dinner.. i'll investigate more later.
