Building your own computer for Sketchup/Vray rendering
Hi guys,
I am trying to become a freelance visualiser for small architectural practices and the work is starting to demand a more powerful machine to process the work (currently working around Bugsplats galore)!
I would like to either buy, or build my own computer specifically for rendering, but don't know where to start. Bearing in mind it needs to be compatible with Vray 2.0 for Sketchup 2013 running on Windows 7.
Does anyone have any experience of this kind of thing, and could give some pointers?
Cheers
Jack

Domelight Tips-
Hi guys,
I've tried switching off the GI and BI, and bringing the gamma of the domelight map down to 0.75 but am still having some trouble with lighting. The shadows are still quite weak and behave strangely as you can see around the fence and on the grass on the right hand side.
Any ideas what's going on would be a great help. Thank!
Here's the image with gamma set to 1.0
And here's with gamma set to 0.75
Using a hdri from peter guthrie
EDIT:
The only thing I can think of doing is rendering a version using GI/BI set up to cast the shadows I want, check override materials, and add the result as a layer in photoshop with 'multiply' setting to create the shadows I want - but obviously less post-production is better ^^

Vray 2.0 importing proxy issue
Hi guys,
I have had some trouble using proxies with sketchup 2.0, and wanted to see if anyone else had come across the same thing or knows how to fix it.
I have a high poly model of a tree which you can see below...
When I render this model it comes out nicely like this...
After exporting the tree as a mesh (following the default export settings) the original model is replaced with the proxy like this...
But when I import the proxy into a new sketchup file and try to render, all the materials seem to be scrambled and I get something that looks like this...
If anyone has experienced similar or knows how to fix it, it would be good to know.
On another note with creating realistic grass proxy in vray, does anyone know of a plugin to scatter objects randomly over an area. I can't seem to get Compo Spray to work in SU 2013. I can install it, but clicking the tool causes nothing to happen. Again, any ideas would be much appreciated! Thanks

RE: My first run of vray 1.6
I don't know if anyone can offer some advice with using dome lights...
I have set up scenes using the dome light and everything is perfect except the shadows created by using the dome light with the GI are almost non existent - they're very weak and not nearly dark enough.
Whereas before you could control the shadows in the sunlight map, I have no idea how to control the shadows using the dome light.
Any ideas?

RE: [Plugin] Compo Spray 1.4.2 Updated
I can't seem to get it working on sketchup 2013 either.
Installation seems to be fine, as the icons appear in the toolbar, but clicking 'Components Spray [Top-Down]' and 'Components Spray [Perpendicular]' does nothing.
Clicking 'Settings' brings up a dialog box with a couple of drop down options, but playing with these seems to do nothing to make the actual tool function properly... unless I'm doing something wrong, which is a strong possibility
Any help would be appreciated!

RE: Help required: VRay Dirt with diffuse bitmap texture map
Hi guys,
I'm trying to add some dirt/imperfection to a white building exterior. The look I'm going for is something like this...
http://www.ronenbekerman.com/designconnected-birthday-4-giveaway/
I've tried adding a dirt map in the primary diffuses transparency, then adding a secondary diffuse map with a greyish colour. When I open the TexDirt options there are 3 places where a map can be added... Black, White and Glossiness. Does anyone know how these 3 options work together?
Thanks for any suggestions
Jack
