I plan to build up this pump completely with an impeller and everything and then run the Khamsin CFD plugin to see if I can get a nice real time simulation.
Gilles, is this something you are familiar with? Does this sound feasible?

Gilles, thank you that is excellent and simple.
I will use English to include all our other friends.
I did open the file but I don't think you can tell in sketchup what type of line it is, are all curved lines arcs or circles probably not.
Jacques
Gilles, this approach seems like the most promising. The loft path seems like a single curve, how was it achieved? Is it a bezier curve?
Thanks,
Jacques
Right, here's a better version of this,I am just using curviloft and arcs. I will get the proper representation of a volute curve and raw that loft properly, then it just needs to be intersected at the top, and a cylinder punched through.
Jacques
this doesn't look like the best way to display an image maybe I should of made a jpg?
So I think there is a possibility by using fredo's curviloft using arcs as the loft path. I have included a sequence of skp images, hopefully everyone can see these.
The idea is that the start and stop part of the loft could be made to intersect and then I could run a cylinder through the center of the whole thing and have my volute.
Right now the top part is being done with the last part of the loft line as a bezier and it looks a bit squished, don't know if I am doing something wrong.
Jacques
OK, I got some ideas I am exploring, let's see if we can get some help to flesh it out.
Hi,does anyone have any idea as to how one might begin to draw a centrifugal pump volute. The outside is completely different from the inside which makes it complicated even to look at. It's a very complicated shape and I am including a few images that will give an idea.
Thanks,
Jacques
Just checked the 3D model export and it provides a dae file. But maybe there is a way to convert a dae to avi.
Jaco
Hi, does anyone know where to get more colors and textures than available in the standard SK, I would particularly like to see more wood and metal colors/textures.
Looked at the plugin page but couldn't find anything.
Thanks,
Jaco
Hello everyone, I am close to finalizing the 3D model of my acoustic guitar using Sketchup and thanks to the help of some of you for the more complicated shapes.
My goal is to animate the guitar with background music, the animation will consist of showing which string is being depressed on which fret with a white dot showing either chords or single notes. This will show people how to play the chords without having fingers in the way as they can often obscure the note positions. I know there is an animation feature in SK but will it allow background music and will I be able to adjust the animation speed to match the music.
If not, is there a way around, can I export a whole bunch of SK images into a video treatment software like Sony Vegas and build the video from there?
Thanks,
Jacques
Hello everyone, is there a way to disarm sketchup’s tendency to always pull you back to one of the axis’s, sometimes when you draw a line with an end point close to an axis you just can’t get it at that small distance that you require, is there a way to disarm this temporarily? Or maybe there’s a work around.
In the same vein, is there a way to force sketchup to go to a certain axis or plane, sometimes when you want to draw something in the vertical plane sketchup can be very obtuse…
Cheers,
Jacques
Wow! Yes, thank you very much.
Jacques
Hi, not sure if this is a newbie question but I am trying to model an acoustic guitar and have much of it done. However I am hung up on how to do the 3 intersecting curves that form the bottom of the neck on the guitar. I have included a picture. I have tried Fredo's curviloft but the results are not what is required.
Thanks,
Jacques
Thanks. I got it now, you just have to follow the Fredo instructions and load the library first.
Cheers,
Jacques
OK, I am a little bit further with it, I downloaded the zip file, I opened it put all the rb files together with the image folder, zipped it, and renamed with extension rbz.
Located it in the preferences section of sketchup, sketchup tried to load the files but said there was an error....
Hi, I am a newbie, but I have been using sketchup and drawings various shapes and getting better. My current goal is to draw an acoustic guitar, many complicated shapes.
I feel I am at the point where I need some plugins. I have already downloaded some, bezier curves, workplane and others, very useful.
It looks to me like I need something like Fredo's curviloft to do some complicated combined curved shapes. It is not clear to me how to download and install these plugins. The instructions are a bit confusing, seems that you need to download a library first, then the plugin....not sure what's going on...Thanks
