hey, cool model! i like how you managed to do it in the "clone wars" series style instead of the movie style.

you blasphamist! using another software?!?! if you havnt noticed theses are the sketchup forums! cheater, using rhio. learn to use TINs.

no, im just kidding. its ok to use another software to do something that SU cant. just use it sparingly...

    • RE: Tiny little things

i second remus' movement: SU sould infer a cube when push/pulling.

even though its not small, i would like to have an option to make objects solid, like filled with stuff, not made out of infinitly thin faces. that way, when i get my hands on a 3-D printer, i dont have to export to a solids modeler.

    • RE: My first render

like mateo soletic said, this doesnt look like a first render. ive been using poium for a while and mine arent that good yet!

congrats on being that good anyhow...

and like remus said, make the bottom of the speaker higher-poly (ie: more lines = smoother curve)

    • RE: Using SP for class project

hey, the project is under way! all the other students are having to make scale drawings by hand, but my group gets to use SU! ha ha ha!!!
any way, here is a pic of the car w/o wheels. the squary thing up front is a mini crumple-zone, like the ones on cars, but smaller (the entire car is only 16" long). the black stuff on the inside is foam with a triangular cut out in the middle for the egg.

thanks again mr phillips, and all the people that made SP happen. my project has been made so much easier because of you guys!

    • RE: Funky Building Concept ... The Vines

wow! thats awsome! my computer would never be able to handle all those vines. the building looks great. how did you do the vines? did you do them in another program and then import them?

      great model, once again.

    • RE: "cutting" glitch and more push/pull problems

shure, here are some screen shots:

      http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh173/imacarfreak/untitled.jpg

      before

      http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh173/imacarfreak/box_2.jpg

      after

anny help? i know a way around this, just coppy when you push/pull, but it has its disadvantages.

as for the clipping, im dealing with very small geometry, like 0.4 centimeters, but the clipping happens on normall sized geometry too, is it just b/c of the small geometry?

      thanks remus

    • "cutting" glitch and more push/pull problems

bug report! (fans of "red vs blue" will know)

i have a problem with zooming in on a model. when ever i get too close, it starts "cutting" into the model. kind of like the section cut tool, but its always perpandicular (or however you spell it) to the camera. ive discovered that it will happen on random models, so its not part of a corrupt file, although it stays with a file that i save (ie: next time i open it, the bug is still there) any way to fix this? ill have some screen shots soon to calrify.

i also found a push/pull bug: when i try to extrude a face, instead of making it thicker, it moves the face foreward and extends the faces touching it. almost like i had selected the face and moved it with the move tool.

i have copied the model i am working on when the glitches apeared into a new file and the bugs stayed! is there a certain procedure for doing that? anny help is apreciated.

ps: SU dicided it would be a good idea to unleash both these bugs right when i needed SU to draw plans for a class project. these bugs made it almost impossibe to model. any sugestions?

hey, thanks for the tut, er, toaster. im an aspireing car designer, and ive been kind of in the dark about how to make cars in SU, so this really helped. ive attached a pic of my first try using your technique. still pretty baisic, but i got a sort of bulge in the middle of the hood, and a chin spoiler, and (kind of) the wheel wells! remember, this is just my first try!

    • RE: Only a Bathroom

      SO... MUCH...GREEN!

as you can probably tell, i think its just a little too monochromatic. the band of beig in the middle of the wall was a nice touch, but a little more of the other colors would be nice.

      needs a window too...

great model, even if there is too mcuh green...

    • Bumpmaps?

hey, amybe im blind, but where are some links for bumpmaps? i want to start using them for rendering and i cant find them anywhere. im specificly looking for podium stuff, if that makes any difference (im a n00b at bumpmaps, what can i say)
more importantly, whats the easiest way to get a bumpmap into your model?

      thanks,

alright, i rendered another one while i was out at dinner. i tried to get the two spires to reflect off eachother, and im shure they did, but i cant see it! i will once again try to get the image to apear here, but ill probly end up posting a link.

      http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh173/imacarfreak/20080424194835_2h44m55s.png

or the link, if the image doesnt show up (agian) i heard something about a file server somewhere. where you you could upload a file regardless of size. where is that?

yep. here's another. left it on noisy whil i was @ school. once again it wont fit in the post, (could it have something to do with the fact that i always format the renders as PNGs?) here it is:

      http://s256.photobucket.com/albums/hh173/imacarfreak/?action=view&current=20080424162954_8h53m23s.png

    • RE: Blimping around.

cool! i wish we could see the lines on the helium filled part, it would make it seem more realistic. my sugestion: un-smooth the lines on the helium filled part (i dont know what else to call it) so that the light will define the lines more.

great model! and as ussual, you make me feel like a begginer just looking at this. keep it up!

looks like something strait out of NFSU2 (need for speed underground 2). and im not saying wether thats a good or bad thing...

on the previous car (the red one), looks GREAT. try not to squish the side and rear windows though. once again, looks awsome.
