RE: Still messin' with my '56
@Elisei -- Thanks, but it can't stand up to some of your amazing models. Gives me something to shoot for
@Carloh -- Well, the current version stands at 18.8GB, but don't know how large it would be if I got around to deleting some of the extraneous crap I have floating everywhere
You got me curious, after cleaning up the unnecessary stuff it dropped to 12.8GB, not too bad. -
Still messin' with my '56
I originally posted this in the gallery several years ago
http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=333%26amp;t=47062%26amp;hilit=messin%27+with+my
and came across it a while back and started playing around with it again. Not sure why.
Anyhow, been working on the frame assembly, making some progress but a long ways to go yet
Made a lot of changes to the front section, suspension, steering, etc, correcting a lot of inaccuracies. You probably won't notice the differences, but I do.
The body is crap, I'm working on that separately, haven't moved it over to the new frame yet.
Figured I'd move it over to the WIP section, since it is most definitely that. Started work on some of the other parts and pieces, floor pan, gas tank, etc. I would really like to do the engine and transmission, just don't know if they are within my capabilites. Don't know yet how far I will take this, it's just something that I come back to every now and then and work on a while, when I need a break from my other projects. -

There is an option from memory, shadows face sun, it's a check box on the component itself, that might be what you need.
Already tried that one, didn't help.

It's the native shading so. which you can't overide.
maybe brighten the background a bit more?
Let's just chalk it up to another weird hellnbak problem
I'll work around it.
Thanks again

Set it to not receive shadow in the entity info
Already checked that, it's set to neither cast or receive shadows

i'd curve the backplate slightly to prevent hitting model.
Thanks for the tip. Only problem now is that when I rotate it to left it becomes very dark
to the right it's ok

Duh! Yep, I are a noob
Thanks, Rich

"Always Face Camera" behavior
I'm not sure I've ever had occasion to use an "Always Face Camera" component before, but in this model it's beginning to bug me
The component in question is the "wall" behind the model. Here the model is just facing forward
Here it's rotated to the left
and here it's rotated to the right
it seems to be rotating from it's left edge. Why?
How is it's rotation point determined? Is there any way to get it to rotate from the center, where the model is?
Probably a noob quesion, and I'm probably not phrasing it very well, but hopefully you get the gist of what I'm talking about. -

try to follow 50 people at the beach, then try to follow 50 people that are all in a bus, although the bus moves faster and further, the second 'group' are a lot easier to keep track of...
johnNice analogy. You know it's good when even I can understand it (was gonna put a "wink" smilie here but don't like the new styles that are slowly taking over)

RE: Converted Barn
Yay, the Frog is back!! All is right with the world again!
Seems like everything you model is someplace I would like to live.
Now model me some money so I can afford it

RE: BWALL
Elegant, with a "lived in" look, although the rumpled rug borders on messy.
Was gonna put a "thumbs up" here but just noticed that for some strange reason it's now green, more appropriate for a gardening smilie. -
RE: "False Maria" robot from 1927 silent film "Metropolis"
Sorry, I've been super busy, will post some more as soon as possible.

RE: Powerful Computer Required! [Urgent]
My computer could handle it, but I couldn't. Most of what you guys are talking about is WAY over my head

RE: "False Maria" robot from 1927 silent film "Metropolis"
Although I referred to her as "False Maria" in the title of this post, I shouldn't have. I did so only because a majority of people, for whatever reason, refer to her that way. I do not feel it is an accurate description of the robot.
The way I look at it, until the "essence" of Maria is copied to the robot, it is just a robot. It's only after the essence is copied, and she takes on the physical form of Maria, that she becomes the False Maria.
To me, it's sort of like calling an empty glass a glass of milk before the milk is poured in.
It just bothers me.
Actually, the robot was never supposed to become the False Maria. Rotwang built her with the intention of somehow infusing her with the spirit of his long-dead love Hel, but Joh Frederson, fearful of the real Maria's efforts to instill an uprising among the workers, convinces him to turn the robot into a False Maria to undo all her efforts.
Now, if someone can explain to me why I bothered explaining all that, I would really appreciate it
Yesterday I finally received my copy of Fritz Lang's Metropolis, a very large and thick hardcover book that is supposedly the definitive resource for all things Metropolis. Well, I'll never know, it's all written in German. Sadly, it's going back
