Trying to find something with fewer arguments with sketchup, Not so simple and there are area's that require compromise which I am still adjusting to. The Camel is going to have a fair few of these compromises.

Apparently jpeg and png are invalid files types. Can someone tell me when that happened please?

      Mike,

Not sure what you are saying here.

As far as jpeg and png being invalid file types, do you mean when importing them as textures? If so, I've found that if I have altered them in some way in a graphics program, then saved them and then tried to import them as a texture, it will give me that error msg if the image is still open in the graphics pgm.

Was going to include a bunch of background stuff but that seems to bore some people. I might include some stuff later on, as the model progresses.

      +1 for more background! ๐Ÿ˜„

Thanks Richard. Yeah, I will include some background stuff eventually. Lots of good info to pass along.

You're really using a pre-6 version of SU? Just curious as to why.

Anyhow, been playing around with this, thought I would post a few photos.

First, the robot on her "chair".
      b.png
Difficult in the respect that few shots show it, and of those that do the vast majority of them are from a distance and show very little useable detail.
An interesting fact -- The seat of the chair was set at angle because the "suit" did not allow Ms Helm to sit all the way down. But even with that an apparatus had to be rigged so that someone pulling on a lever behind the chair slowly tilted the seat forward until she could stand on her own.

Also took a stab at Maria on the lab table, just prior to her 'essence' being transferred to the robot
      a.png
Still a lot to do, about 600 miles of cable and wiring to add, a lot of electronic doo-dads, this, that and 'tother. Gonna try to make the face look like Brigitte Helm, now that should be fun.

Both of these scenes proved very frustraing because of SU's inability to work realistically with 'glass' or transparent surfaces. Go below a certain amount of transparency and no shadows are cast or received, along with other problems. Drove me nuts, finally just gave up.

So much to do, so little time.

      Thanks for the replies.

I have downloaded and installed the plugin. I have also checked out some of the documentation, manual, videos, etc. Looks like another one well beyond my very limited capabilities ๐Ÿ˜’

      Oh well.

It was McAfee Web Advisor that flagged the download. I don't know about flagging false positives, I just installed it a few weeks ago. Normally I avoid anything to do with McAfee but decided to give this one a try.

I am very cautious about what I download, your website name didn't give me a warm fuzzy feeling ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

I haven't downloaded it yet, am understandably reluctant to do so until I hear that it is indeed safe.

yeah, probably shouldn't have posted this, it's just that I was so excited to find out that yet another of the Hannibal 8's has survived.

I tend to get emotionally involved with my projects, should probably seek professional help about that ๐Ÿ˜•

    • RE: Professor Fate's "Hannibal 8"

Was doing some research for a new model and happened to come across some new photos of a Hannibal 8 being restored. Couldn't figure out how I had missed them before, but then I noticed that they were posted to Flickr about 9 months after I posted my model. Figured I'd post them here in case anybody wanted to see what the Hannibal 8 really looks like in some of the areas where I had to use my imagination because there were no reference photos available at the time.

This is what my less-than-stellar imagination came up with for the hydraulics, chain drive and whatnot
      1.png

and here's what it actually looks like
      1d.png

The caption under the photo reads
      aa.png

      Some more photos
      1a.png

Could have made the interior more accurate and detailed if I had had this photo
      1b.png

Didn't know all this stuff was in the back seat, I assume it's for the hydraulics
      1f.png

As you can see it's in pretty bad shape, but I did some searching and came up with some photos of it after being restored. As you can see the restoration is not complete, some parts are missing, such as the nose cone, spare tires, luggage, the pole holding up the roof, one of the rear wheels, etc. But it's definitely come a long way.
      b.jpg

Apparently the guy standing at the control raises and lowers the vehicle, a real step up from the other Hannibal 8's on display elsewhere that are static and held up by poles. Also, this is the only one that got it right as far as the fenders raising with the body, like they did in the movie.
      h.jpg
      c.jpg

Anyhow, just thought I'd post these here in case anybody might be interested.
Am I gonna update my model with this new info? Probably not ๐Ÿ˜
