      Dear TIG.

I'm using this script to project elevations from a model. Its working flawless. Now I wanted to project a 2d of the model that is just visible from a plane And this requires me to select faces with visibility criteria from a given view.

I am doing this with a the following method but I hope there will be a better of doing it.

** Give a colour to my elevations for different views. For example faces that qualify to project on front be coloured red, side views colored yellow etc. then select by similar material and project selection to the working plane.
Faces that are visible on more than one elevation will be given another color and included in selection. **

As faces that are perpendicular to my working plane do not need to project these may be selected and hidden on projection just to refine the criteria.

Is there any criteria that evaluates faces in the model according to their visibility from the working plane?

Assuming that our model is opaque and rays from my working plane get reflected to the projection plane.

I.e for Not projecting rear side view on the front one etc ...

      Thanks lot again.

      Tig
      Wow. Thank you so much..
      I've just downloaded the script.
      Again thank you.

      Does this script unfold faces?
I've attached the su on the release page.
Thanks and keep up TIG. I'm so Amazed.

I have no words to thank for your quick response. Your speed to make the solution is amazing.
I just got the script and was playing with it for a while. I created a work plane i selected my group and run it.
The result was the model got unfolded on the working plane. Or is it my problem I've attached the model.
And One more thing, If i have my section plane on, does it flatten only the visible geometry.
Again thank you so much. πŸ‘

    • [REQ] Project visible edges on a plane

      Hello
      I'm coming from newbie forum.
I have been looking for a way to get a clean 2d geometry right out of SU but after googling a lot i cant find one.

Is it technically possible to create a script that projects visible edges (only the visible ones) on a plane? A plane like an imaginary 'picture plane' in Technical drawing that projects visible edges and prints them on itself.
When my plane is upright i can collect elevations from my model.
When i cut my model for a floor plan i would like to project the outlines of my furniture and uncut geometry on it.

***the edges projected on plane need to keep layer and group/component.

      NB
2d dwg export results in a geometry with all components expoded even curves
3d export is nice but i wanted in 2d.
Flatten script is quite nice but it merges down the top with the bottom geometry and results in showing the invisible ones.

    • Project visible edges on Section plane

      Hello sketchucations
I appreciate your forum. Its making great help.
I was wondering if it is technically possible to create a ruby script that projects visible entities (only the visible ones) on the section plane.
what i mean is for example when i cut my model for a floor plan i would like to project the outlines of my furniture etc to the section plane and create groups.

The idea behind this is to generate all my 2d requirements except hatching and dimension in SU.

      NB
i tried to export 2d dwg but the result is a messy geometry all components expoded even curves
the 3d export is nice but i need the 2d
flatten script is quite nice but it merges the bottom geometry and needs cleanup also doesn't handle big model.

but the section group when exported to cad keeps layers and components.

    • RE: Export 2d dxf with layers and Components

Thank you for your quick response Tig

I wanted a cleaner 2d geometry generated from sketchup with all my section cuts and finally to work further on cad. I would like my su model to be usable and export 2d dxf each time i update my su model. can i get something like the exportlayers2dae for dxf so that i can merge together the files to a single cad file with layers.

      @Tig
I just Saw that you already have witten a nice script export_by_layer.rb
is it possible to make it export 2d dxfs in different layers ?
      Thanks again.

    • Export 2d dxf with layers and Components

      Hello !
This is my first post here!
I've been looking for a way to export my model into 2d dxf with a script but unfortunately i couldn't get my SU layers in the export. and even all the components are exploded.

Is there a way to maintain the layers and components on 2d export or may be a plugin?
      Please.
