Open the drawer components and apply the materials to the faces instead of to the components. don't get sloppy now. πŸ˜‰

I did apply them to the faces. At least I thought I did anyway. I had to scale and position the textures on each face.I know because I had display driver problems a few times while I was doing it. The display driver stopped responding and has recovered' was the message I kept getting. Only ever happened when I was trying to scale and move/rotate the texture to fit a face. The one texture which definitely did need adjusting though was the one for the draw bottom. I have scaled that down a bit and it looks much better. Hang on - right Im with you now!The textures on the side panels on the inside don`t match the outside. My mistake. Thanks for pointing that out. πŸ˜‰

Reduce the nesting on the drawer. You've got an extra layer of nesting which isn't needed. Look at the Outliner to get a clear idea of what's happening there.

As to the construction, I think for no bigger than the drawer is, you could get away with 12mm sides and back and the front could be 18 or 19mm.

With the nesting, I assume you are referring to the extra Mission Table Draw'. Im not sure how to fix this though. I can`t delete either or the draw is deleted. How is it done?

The measurements I took directly from Lucas plans. I didnt want to change anything in case I screwed things up. I`ll have a go with your suggestion though.

And thanks Luca. Practice makes perfect I guess - LOTS of practice! πŸ˜„

    • Mission Table

Here is another table I have just completed. With this one I remembered Daves advice about flipping components so did that with a few of the sections. Once again, I used a real wood texture instead of SUs own for a better finish (I hope!). Some post processing done in Paint.Net to enhance the colours.

    • RE: Shortcuts

As U' is not assigned to anything I have used it for the offset tool. The icon is a lot like the letter U' anyway. This freed up `F' for follow me and as W is no longer used I have assigned it to Weld.

    • Shortcuts

As I have gradually got used to using SU and all the default shortcuts I found there were a few gaps to be filled so I thought I would share the ones I added . Maybe they could be of use to someone else as well.

Follow Me tool - I used the letter %(#FF4000)[W]'. I was going to use F' but that is already assigned to the offset tool.

Delete Guides - when woodworking I tend to use plenty of guides which need deleting when Im finished so I used Ctrl-G' for this one so I dont keep having to scroll down to Delete Guides' in the Edit menu.

X-Ray - surprise, surprise I used %(#FF4000)[X]'. I always like to check the joints in my models so its quicker and easier to have a shortcut.

These are the ones I`ve added so far.

Anyone else with some useful shortcuts to add?

    • RE: Outdoor table

Luca your not wrong about the time it takes! As most of the parts were saved as groups instead of components I was able to texture each side of each part separately. And that did take a while. But the slats were components so everything I did to one I did to the rest as well.

Dave surely flipping the texture would flip ALL the textures on the slats? Or is there a way of flipping without affecting the texture on the other components?

    • Outdoor table

Here is an outdoor table I made using another of Lucas woodworking plans. I think they are great. This one was definitely more challenging than the last one, with all the little spacers in the grooves holding the slats. I used a wood texture off the web for this one instead of SU own wood and tried to get each piece unique, but the slats were components so when I painted one I painted them all although I dont think it shows too much.. I`ve included an X-ray version as well.

I`ve just noticed in the x-ray pic - I forgot to paint the spacers! πŸ˜†

    • RE: Can I have more than one SU?

Thinking out it, I think yours, Jeff, is the easiest one. I use a similar system with Paint.Net to open different sized templates to start off with. Don`t know why I never thought of it before. And with Win7 you can pin the various different ones to the jump list for easy access.

Thanks for all the advice, much appreciated. πŸ‘

    • Can I have more than one SU?

I was just wondering if it would be possible to have more than one Sketchup installed. At the moment I have SU set up to use the woodworking template, however occasionally I need to use a different one for other work. If it was possible to have 2 SU`s installed I could set one up with one template and the other with a different one which would make it so much easier instead of having to open the program , change the template, close it and open it again with the new template.

I think you did a great job with the table. It looks great.

Yes I did leave out the molding on the legs. I just wanted to get on with the joints. I`ll probably add it later.

Thanks for all the advice on materials. I`ll have to have a proper read of that link before I do any texturising. Thanks Dave. πŸ‘

    • Table Material question.

I am building a table using a plan drawn by Luca Dal Molin from SketchupWoodPlans.com. The reason was mainly to get acquainted with the various different joints - dovetail, mortis & tenon etc. It is the first time I have attempted something this complex. My bird tables were OK but there was not much in the way of joints to worry about. This will test me a bit more, especially my accuracy when assembling the different parts. I was just wondering if it would be better to add the wood texture to the different pieces as I progress or should I leave it until the end?

    • No Point at Center

I was just looking at Dave Richards Making Waves tutorial on the Fine Woodworking website and he mentions a native plug in in SU called Point at Center. I looked in the extensions menu and I have the right boxes ticked but the plug in does not appear . I looked for it on the Ruby plug ins menu website but while there are some point plug ins , Point at Center is not there either.
Has this plug in been incorporated into another one in an update or has it just been removed entirely?

If the tutorial has been removed maybe the link to it should be removed as well. Shame though.

My second bird table. I have nicknamed this one PollyTable as it used a polygonal shape. The first pic is how it was originally but I decided to add an overhang which can be seen in the close up.
