I think vray does an awesome job with sketchup. I used vray in the past with Max and had great success fooling my clients if it was real or a rendering.
Is it possible to add bump maps in your rendering with vray? I have not used it with sketchup as of yet, and haven't seen the interface within sketchup. Is there a material editor for / within sketchup?

RE: KT
I really like the roof in the first image. It looks like you created it from actual geometry, not a bump map..
Nice work!

Robert, I know what you mean but this part of the presentation was to show how well the scheme fits in with the existing street whilst someone talks the audience through it, if it went faster then by the time they've mentioned one thing they already beyond the next point they wanted to make.
In the end, you have to do what the project / client calls for.

I tried to find a course here but to no avail, I assume it would be perceived in the film industry as directing.
If anybody has some ideas or knows of an online resource then I'd love to know about it/themHere is a link to a video I created about 2 years ago. It has a few clips with some basic transitions. It is a bit slow too, but I think the music makes up for it. It was created to get approval from the local aging community, for that reason, I tried not to make it too flashy.
I have no information on directorship tutorials. My only advice is to watch TV and see how long their clips are, what types of transitions, etc.
Anyway, Good Luck on your Journey

Robert these are great. The first thing that struck me however is that your images are from different perspectives but the mountain background is the same.
ehhmm. correct. It was the only background the owner gave me to work with. Since its off season for similar shots, I had to settle for the same background.
Good Catch, and thanks for the input.

RE: Gazebo diddy's
I created the brick texture in CS3. Began with a standard brick texture, desaturated, and played with levels to get the desired effect.
Thanks Again

RE: Appartment Project in Belfast - Update
Paul,
Awesome modeling. The animation portions sounds like a TON of work.My comments if you dont mind me being so bold.
- Speed it up. Watch tv and time what they show in what amount of time. You will be amazed on what a 'short' clip can portray.
- Rotate the view occasonally to show more of the architecture. The main focus seems to be the road itself.
- Create mini-clips, fly by / around some of the buildings.
All in all, my hats off to you,
Good Job. -
Exterior Furniture Sketchup Components
Here is a great site for external furniture components. It came in very useful on a last minute project.

RE: [Tutorial > Modeling] Brick Arch (revised)
Thanks Daniel. Great Tutorial.
I create brick arches all the time, but take the easy way out and depend on distance to hide the material not following the arch. Thanks again Mister!

I always wished the SU Viewer had a "full window" mode... Does it support scenes, BTW?
Im not sure if it supports scenes, I will have to investigate that too.
About 6 months ago I did a project for Flagler College in St. Augustine Florida. Actually for a Landscape Architect on the project. I created 3 buildings and the common areas. She presented it with the Sketchup Viewer. The President of the colleged loved the presention so much, he had the Landscape Architect repeat her demo many many times for new arrivals to the meeting. The college approved 'all' the landscape architects concepts no questions asked. She, the landscape architect, said she was walking on water, thanks to the awesome visualization capabilities of Sketchup.Did I day I love Sketchup?

Robert, nice job on the renderings Are you using Piranesi also?

I have looked into Piranesi, but have not taken the leap as of yet. I'm very impressed with the results though.btw. Im a big fan of your work. Very Nice.

RE: The North Western Look
Currently, the sketchup viewer, setup on a 24" or greater sized monitor with logitech's space navigator or similar device.
Just thinking out load about this scenario:
The end user may not be too efficient using this configuration, but I can train one of the sales associates and they can do the tour for the client. I think that would be a better way to go. -
Loft improvement
Lofting shapes along a path and swapping out shapes at different points of the loft.
Like the loft utility in Max.
This is the ONLY reason I have to revert back to max to model difficult situations. -
RE: An attempt
Shreesta,
Very nice concept. Clean and easy to view.
Im not a architect or designer by any means, but I can give my two cents on your image. Small things, but beauty is in the details, right?? or is that the devil is in the details?-
The curbs have been extruded, which created those non-smoothed lines on the edges. You can hide these with the 'cntrl + erase command. It smoothes them out. You can hide them with the 'shift + erase tool but it does not 'smooth' the surface.
-
Idea to play with. Tinker with sketchy lines. I have a great time playing with different styles and blending them in photoshop.
-
If you import this into 'Layout', you can control the thickness of your linework.
Just some ideas.
I like your work! -

RE: The North Western Look
Thanks gaieus Matio and solo,
This is / will be a golf community in North West Montana.
I have plans to do all common areas in sketchup. If I can talk the owners into a large screen computer setup in their sales office, they can have the possible clients interactively experience the community before its built.Did I say Sketchup was a beautiful tool?
Thanks again,

The North Western Look
Here is a recent project, my first northwest look and feel. My typical work is the floridian style. I quite enjoy the change of pace. I've personally ripped these images to shreds on what I could have done better. Don't we always. Fortunetly, this will be an ongoing project so I can improve as I go.

Gazebo diddy's
Here are some gazebo concept models I created last week for one of my landscape architectural clients. They turned out pretty cool. Clean and friendly.
Sketchup is a wonderful thing!!
