Macs are very fascinating items (I had a IMac G5) but when you have to deal with your everyday work you 'll certainly run against softwares that does not support the OS platform.
So I prefer to give the Apple's design up and go for a Win laptop where I can run all my favourite apps!

if you want to be accurate the solution is to take measures from paper drawing and re-draw all into sketchup, otherwise you can do as you said, but don't aspect precision!
