Just did a quick google search and maybe you should try:

      1. In SketchUp, import the Geo Location you are interested in.
      2. Then go to Window---->Components.
      3. Click the pulldown menu to the left of the search bar.
      4. Choose "nearby models".
      5. A list of available buildings near your location will appear.
      6. Click on any to import to your model file in SketchUp.

Thanks for tip. It seems the resolution is so bad as to be unusable. is there a way to get beyond default resolution? Also, only one building to import. Dang...

    • How to get from Google Earth?

I have a SU model that is ready to render, but still needs the background generated for it. I see that GE not only has a good bitmap of the surrounding area, but many buildings already in 3D.
I'm not trying to get something for nothing and am more than willing to pay. Is there a way I can download this scene, complete with buildings and import into SU? I see there are a number of posts that seem to touch on this subject, but none that lock it in for me. I'm on a bit of a deadline and haven't time to try to glean needed info via scouring the posts here. Any advice?

    • Autocad file imports extrusions

      Hello, all...

I have a client whose "2D"acad dwg files, when imported into Sketchup end up being extruded all over the place. They appear like normal 2D drawings when viewed with camera set to parallel view and overhead view is selected in Sketchup. As soon as I begin to rotate the model, the problem appears. I see that their files have the same problem when I use Acad orbit tool. Obviously, the client is doing something wrong when working in 2D, but I was wondering if anyone knows of a fix on our end or do I have to have them fix it on theirs?

      TIA!

    • RE: No mouse orbit!

Okay, here's the latest. called guru. He had me right-click on "computer" in "start" menu. This got me to a lower level, allowing drivers left behind by uninstall to be removed. Plugged in old Logitech mouse. Computer sought out and loaded drivers for it. It works fine. Sheesh! Too scared to plug new one in again, but at least I can work! Thanks all! β˜€

That's yer problem. You might be able to get into the mouse settings and change the mapping for the center mouse wheel so Zoom works. While you're at it, check the mapping on the center mouse button, too.
Thanks for input, but the zoom function already works. It's the scroll wheel click that doesn't function. No mapping option I have found will return it. WTF, Logitech!

      I wouldn't throw out driver.
      I don't imagine Logitech's are that different.
I have a few buttons set specifically for SU.

This setup enables that orbit function on my Mac.
Hmmm...maybe it's your mouse setpoint options, but I don't seem to have an applications option in Setpoint. I've been on the phone with Logitech and they still can't figure it out! I even tried plugging in my old Logitech mouse (after uninstall) and have same problem, so somehow Setpoint screwed with my default mouse. Argh!

The problem is still that you loaded the mouse driver. πŸ˜’ Remove the driver and it should work just fine.
Thank you, but I already said I uninstalled it in my first post. πŸ˜’ Still nothing!

    • No mouse orbit!

Help! Just got a Logitech M705 mouse, installed the Logitech Setpoint driver and have no functioning orbit with depressing scroll button. I really need that. My old machine with old Logitech works fine. I don't believe I ever bothered to load it's driver (I'm reading that the driver may be the problem?). I tried uninstall, but it still won't orbit. Perhaps I didn't uninstall completely? Same problem in my Thea Render package. What can I do?

This is called a "floating license". Some software developers take this route while others take a different one (like it has to be deactivated on one machine to activate it on another one - or even locking the license to a certain hardware). Each solution has its advantages and drawbacks (from both vendor's and user's point of view) and also the nature of the software often determines which way to take.

TIG cannot use SU on two machines concurrently. Me neither. So there is no high risk of "cheating" here.

A renderer may be different. You could be building your scene, tweaking materials whatnot on one machine while rendering a movie on the other. Thus their licenses are usually stricter.
That makes sense to me. Like TIG, I only care to use one machine at a time. πŸ˜„ I will be disposing of the Dell. Now, if I understand correctly...I will need to tell NVidea to handle SU?

Hmm, I don't think you ever actually posted it, as this appears to be your first and only post at this point.

You don't need to migrate your license, just install SU on your new machine and enter in the license details. It will work fine.

      Chris

Strange...I remember previewing it, then sending...

Ok, thanks for quick reply. I thought that might be the case, but it surprises me that there isn't a means to keep one from installing a single seat over and over. 😐

    • Migration

      hello, all:

I asked this a few days back, but now can't seem to find it (?).

I was wondering how to migrate my licensed copy of Sketchup to my new computer.

      TIA!
