i contacted the guy from those cgarchitect links, and apparently instancing in and out of max has been supported for 14 years, if you like as a demo, you send a SKP with alot of components and he sends you back the max file with the converted instances, awesome, the pluggins called Polytrans and it costs $395

lol. That'd be cool. Producing artistic content for use in renders ... That's gotta be the tiniest niche market possible.
im sure evermotion are making a killing off it.
as for the railing, just add a slight sheen to make it pick up some slight highlights from your scene light u got in there.

RE: Max Plugin
do you know if it'll convert components into instances... i would pay for that

RE: Where lies the bug?
do any of the other renderers experience this problem?

RE: FLW -The Morris house (Seacliff)
thanx pete, that helps, those rocks really do it for me, are they from a library how do u intergrate them? also is the interaction with the water automatic? i see some foaming. i really feel i should give it a try the new Vue is Vray compatable inside max.
what was the original resolution of that render and render time? from what i hear it takes forever to get Vue to render high quality, any thoughts?

RE: FLW -The Morris house (Seacliff)
are those rocks generated in Vue? Vue is still a mistery to me, any way we could get a screen shot showing the view interface, im currious about the display. (a step by step semi tut would be cool too)
well done, one of the better Vue Renders ive seen, the ones on the web/forums site arent as good.

RE: Behind the [cg]Scenes
hi trying out ur pluggin and i can see its strength, maybe im alone here, but i would like to see it not activate the scene when i browse on it, but rather once i double click on the scene name, this would allow u to move quicker through the scenes without having you pc hang on heavy scene, also i would like to see an eyeball next to layer names to toggle visability rather than having to tick it on top, and lastly, it would be awesome if sun shadows on and off was a option for scene states.
thanx for the pluggin
its very handy

RE: [Plugin Idea] Deform Plugin
it would be cool if SU could do this, how ever i find the underlying Coen versus the Sketchup bashers debate far more interesting
.
Coen, i dont mean to pick on you, and i appologize if this is general knowledge, but what is your profession? i know that anyone working as a 3d artist that has a broad understanding of 3D modeling (Sketchup and the more traditional 3d apps ie max, C4d)will eventually come to the conclussion that Sketchups developement is painfully slow, and we enjoy a love hate relationship with the program. personally i hate SU once a day but for architecture would not and could not go a single day without it even having Max at my disposal. so relying on SU as we (myself and Biebel im sure) do, its painful for us to see SU stuck in this perpetual 3d infancy, so we get bleek feeling our wishes are not being heard from the big SU programers or marketing consultants or whoever decides SU's developement strategy.
he doesnt hate Skecthup people hes frustrated by limitations... duh
my retort refers strictly to architecture, i dont what the hell anyone who uses SU for anything else is thinking although i understand its appeal and wont hold it against you.
look a smiley afro
stinkie you crack me up.

RE: [REQ] Weld ALL selected lines
i think they are very similar, vray and mental ray, i would really like to get into MR to discern the differences for myself.
i was really impressed with this: http://features.cgsociety.org/story_custom.php?story_id=5097&page=1

RE: [REQ] Weld ALL selected lines
thanx
im current in a 3 way orgy with Sketchup and Max, each program filling in for the others weakness

RE: [REQ] Weld ALL selected lines
Dave: thats what i was refering to when i said "weld", my problem was i needed to weld alot of "groups" of lines into individual welded curves, the ruby "weld" only does one set of connected lines at a time. (i think weld and curve-sticher were the first rubies i got when starting sketchup)
thomthom: simplify contours from the cadfather's "CD Archiland" toolbar set, (i dont know who the original author was) it simplifies curves by the angle between adjacent lines.
so if i select alot of lines made by an intersection of planes and contour/organic shape, i can run simplify contours and it converts all "sets" of lines that are touching into individual welded curves...
ps: in the dialogue box that pops up after hitting "simplify contours" enter 0 and it welds all lines without simplifying
-
[REQ] Weld ALL selected lines
something that kills me with organic modeling (topographic) is having to weld a thousand separate groups of lines into curves in order to use simplify contour on the welded curves, desperately need to be able to select all the lines and hsve all the lines become separate welded curves
is this possible, perhaps it exists?
edit oops as soon as i posted this i realisd that if i select all the lines and run simplify contours, it does what i requested,
so this is more of a lesson than a request...

RE: Kmz to skp (or 3ds)
sheesh, well done, cant imagine how long it took u to develope such a technique
thanx again

RE: [Plugin] Remove group materials, leave geometry material
hi on the front page Mat666 says the new version has all the suggested improvements any way someone could post a features list, to save people (me) having to read through all 5 pages and descern what exactly was implemented
