Troubles With Toolbar Customization In SU 2015
Hello,
I'm trying to convert over to SU2015 and I'm having a problem figuring out how to customize the toolbar. The SU help page says that I should go to view>toolbars>custom. but the "custom" never shows. I've attached a screenshot of what I see after I go to view>toolbars.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Why Do My Guide Lines "Disappear"?
I've been noticing over the months since I upgraded to SU 2014 that guide lines tend to disappear when I zoom in close. Sometimes I can orbit the view to get the guide to reappear, but it frequently is inconvenient, and it causes a lot of fiddling and zooming out to get the objects to snap to the guides that I set up. Is this a common problem or a bug, or is there something that I'm missing? Any help would be appreciated.

RE: Problems With Searching 3D Warehouse in Chrome
Hi Dave,
I was going to send you a print screen, but when fiddling around, I found that I had a Norton toolbar which appeared to be covering up the search function. In any case, I'm able to now access the search function.
Thanks for the reply!

Problems With Searching 3D Warehouse in Chrome
Hello,
I seem to be having problems finding the search function in the 3D warehouse. I'm using the Google Chrome browser, and I can search just fine when accessing the 3D warehouse from within SketchUp. Not sure what gives. I flushed the browser, but no luck. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Many thanks!

RE: Layout File Size Does Not Reduce When Deleting Pages
OK, I figured this out. File->Document Set-up->References->Purge.
Just needed to keep with it!
Thanks!

Layout File Size Does Not Reduce When Deleting Pages
Hello,
I was working with a rather large Layout file (136K) and decided to break it up into sections with the intent of assembling the final document by combining PDF files in Adobe. So, the way I did this was to open the master Layout file, "save as", and then delete the unwanted pages. This process was iterated several times, one for each file that I wanted to keep. Alas, now EACH of the new files is --- 136K! I'm obviously missing something and any help would be sincerely appreciated.
Many thanks!

Having Problems Linking Texture Libraries
Hello,
For some reason, I'm having problems with accessing my previously made texture libraries in SU 2014. I have gone to Window -> Preferences -> Files -> Texture Images, and have made sure that SU 2014 points to the correct file. However, all I see in SU are the default texture/materials. I'm sure it's something easy, but I'm having problems figuring it out. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Continuity of Customizations
Hello,
I am a dedicated SU pro and LO pro user. Your software has made my house remodeling project something that is achievable for me instead of a pipe dream. But, down to business: I have dutifully upgraded to the latest versions from SU/LO 8 Pro, SU/LO 2013 Pro, and now SU/LO 2014 Pro. And every time, I have to spend a considerable amount of time re-creating the virtual environment that I have painstakingly created with earlier versions. While I sincerely appreciate the flexibility of customizing my design environment, I have to admit that re-creating that for each new SW update is a PITA. And as a pro user I have to do that twice (SU and LO). Is there any way that my current SU and LO configurations can be "captured" and mapped to the new software? I'm including not only my customized toolbars and screen arrangements, but also any plug-ins which I have downloaded and customized to my liking. (I'm sure that there is a method because you're a bunch of really smart guys). Hey, there may already be some sort of way to do this (via a plug-in??). But I am unaware of any. In any case, if I were running a business (which I have in past lives), I would seriously consider the cost and annoyance to the user of having to spend the extra time to re-create their customizations for every upgrade to a new software version. It took me 8 hours (one work day)to reconfigure from SU/LO 2013 to SU/LO 2014. Designers and engineers charge about $100/hour for their time, so that about covers a license for SU/LO pro. Hopefully, this is helpful insight.
Thanks!

RE: Solar North Toolbar -- Where is it in SU 2014?
Thanks, Thomas, for your help and response. For some reason, I thought the Solar North was included in SU 2013 (much like some of the camera plug-ins). But my memory is getting feebler by the minute, so I'm sure your're right. I think that the idea of better integration of the EW with SketchUp is really good and it seems that the ability to truly customize SU without a bunch of features that you won't use much is forward thinking and useful. I'll go about getting the Solar North plug-in and installing it, and while I'm at it, I'll look around to see what other customization options might be available.
Thanks again!!

RE: Solar North Toolbar -- Where is it in SU 2014?
Hi Charlie,
Many thanks for your advice, but unfortunately, no luck. The choice did not appear. I got an error message when trying to copy the file into the 2014 "tools" folder, and placing it in the SU 2014 general folder, didn't seem to work. I didn't see a "plugins" folder in SU 2014, so that may be part of the problem.
Many thanks for your suggestions!
Can someone from Trimble please explain this loss of functionality? I'm paying for this as a pro user and I'm not very happy at the moment. I didn't expect SU 2014 to be a "downgrade"!

Solar North Toolbar -- Where is it in SU 2014?
Hello,
I've just upgraded to SU 2014 pro. Fortunately, I did not uninstall SU 2013, which in this case had a
"Solar North" toolbar. Now, I cannot find the "Solar North" toolbar on SU 2014. Furthermore, I cannot seem to locate the function. Is this a loss of functionality? If so, then SU 2014 is a degrade. Can anybody tell me where to look or what happened? Thanks for your help!

RE: Layout 2013 Repeatedly Crashes -- Is My File Size Too Big?
Hi Marc,
Thanks for the reply. I have been told by numerous sketchup users that I really need to use the .rtf file format for text created in other software (i.e. MS Office). I'm a big fan of spreadsheets, and I thought I had the cut-and-paste working OK, but after a while, the Layout application started getting cranky and crashing. I notice the same type of crash with much more sensitivity when I attempt to cut and paste from Excel when I have merged cells. When I try to resize the window in Layout -- crash! Honestly, the .rtf solution is very workable (now that I know how to do it) and the results look good. So definitely not a deal breaker. But.. Excel is sooo versatile. It would be nice to have a seamless import or cut-and-paste in a future build.
Thanks again!!

RE: Layout 2013 Repeatedly Crashes -- Is My File Size Too Big?
OK, I think I have this figured out. I was being lazy and copying and pasting my tables directly from Excel. This JUST DOESN'T WORK!! But.... I'm a slow learner! I was having real troubles copying and pasting from Excel to Word, then saving as .rtf because that didn't work any better than the copy and paste from Excel. So I re-read some old posts about this problem and finally figured out that I was not converting the table in Word to text. That took me a while to figure out too, but I finally did it, and the table went right into Layout with no crashing problems. The only down-side is I can't figure out how to get the borders to come out. The conversion to text obliterates the borders in Word. I gave up and just drew in some nice lines with the line tool, grouped the whole shebang, and called it good. At least I can get back to work and stop wasting time on recovering from crashes.
BTW,I have a graphics computer with 32GB RAM, so that was definitely not the problem.
Thanks for all of your suggestions!

Layout 2013 Repeatedly Crashes -- Is My File Size Too Big?
Hello,
I'm working on some drawings for a home remodeling project, and I'm trying to put in a few changes that the plans checker "recommended" (e.g., mandatory changes). However, I've been noticing that this particular layout file keeps crashing. I'm saving a lot, but can't figure out what's wrong. I'm thinking it might be the size (129 MB , pretty hefty), but I don't have a clue how to deal with it. I wonder if bigger projects separate their layout files into different categories (i.e., site preparation, architectural, electrical, plumbing, HVAC...). To me that would be a configuration nightmare, but I guess that is what one has to do. Still, this is a tiny project. Maybe I'm trying to cram too much into it.
Any help would be sincerely appreciated.
Thanks!

RE: Generate Report Requires Google Account Sign-In? +Locks Up.
Hi Dave,
I recently installed a Google drive, so maybe this is what SU is trying to access.
I checked my folders under preferences and they all point to my hard drive (not the Google drive, so that's not the problem. I also made sure I was signed into Google, and still no luck. I'm thinking there's something messed up because I get a log in page, but there's no response when I try to sign in with my user id and password. I also don't know how I can manipulate where the report file saves in advance. My previous experience is that SU generates the file and you can choose to save it wherever you want to. I just can't get to that step.
Thanks for your reply!
Frank.

Generate Report Requires Google Account Sign-In? +Locks Up.
Hello,
I recently tried to generate a report for one of my models and I found that I was required to sign into my Google account. I'm working with SU 2013 pro and this is the first time I've tried to generate a report with the 2013 version, so I did't think it was a big deal. But when I dutifully entered my password, nothing happened. So, no report. I checked my Google account and the password worked, so not a password problem. Two questions: 1. Why are we now required to sign into a Google account to generate a report of data that is produced by the model owner? 2. Why doesn't it work?
Any help would be sincerely appreciated.
Thanks!
