    • RE: Cost to upgrade to 1.6?

HDR Light Studio support has been added for VfR fyi. We would like to add support to VfS as well, but we have hit some limitations that prevent us from doing that for this release. Upgrade pricing is discounted for existing users I believe. Not sure where TomDC got his info from, but it sounds about right. I have no quick access to marketing/sales info personally.

    • RE: V-Ray Beta 1.6 Animation Export Location?

The first scene gets rendered twice. So if you have transitions set to be 1 second, and you have your animation output set to 30fps, you will need to render 30 frames before you will see a change in camera position.

we could try to replicate the issue in our office if you could send us the scene. There is an option under Plugins->V-Ray that is called "Pack Scene". That will grab all external files, such as textures, as well as the scene file, and bundle it all up in a .zip file. Just send us the .zip (ftp server if you have one, dropbox, box.com, soShare, media fire, etc) and we can test here at our office. Send an email with a link to the scene file to vfswip@chaosgroup.com hopefully it's just a setting that needs to be adjusted.

It is in the Beta version so it has not been released yet.

We are well on our way to final release though! RC2 should be our last Release Candidate prior to release, so everyone get ready!

GPU support does have some limitations. Here is the documentation for what is supported: http://www.spot3d.com/vray/help/rt100/supported_features.htm

and here is what is unsupported:
      http://www.spot3d.com/vray/help/rt100/unsupported_features.htm

Obviously the 3D Studio Max specific stuff isn't relevant, but for the most part these documents apply to V-Ray for SketchUp. It's recommended to use CUDA over the OpenCL method, if you have an NVidia graphics card that supports it. If the chosen GPU method isn't supported on your machine, a message should appear in the progress window indicating that CPU will be used instead.

It'll probably cost a small fortune, though. [didn't say this] I'd consider a Hackintosh. Way more power for less money. [/didn't say this]

No thanks! If you're trying to cut corners and save money... don't use Apple at all. Hackintoshes just don't cut it imo. All or nothing!

at that time, the statement was accurate. GPU rendering was added during our beta process. Originally it was assumed that this addition would take too long, and would potentially be too unstable to add to this release. We have it working now, although it is limited.

techincally, yes, this would be possible. It's something we plan on adding in the future, but if someone wants to play with our xml in ruby, feel free to try. It's not easy, or we would have done it already.

I don't know what the SketchUcation Plugins Manager is, but you can enable or disable V-Ray for SketchUp through the Window->Preferences->Extensions dialog. Just check or uncheck V-Ray for SketchUp.

Oh, I'm here every day. Just don't always have time to respond to posts, and luckily the community seems to jump in when I fail to. ::high fives V-Ray users::

The watermarks are showing up for many users these days, because our beta testing phase is running a little longer than originally anticipated. When we release a new release candidate, we will allow fresh demo licenses to be checked out again.

I've never seen this error with V-Ray, if you choose the correct install path, and use default installation options checked.

we tracked down a UV related issue that may be the cause of this. It should hopefully be resolved in nightly builds after 7/29.

    • RE: V-ray materials disappear??? why is that..

We only support having 1 model open at a time in SketchUp on OSX, the majority of the material craziness is typically from having 2 models open simultaneously. The next release allows you to choose which model we attach to, which remedies this issue.

    • RE: New beta creating issues....watermark

The watermark appears when the demo license for the beta expires. It's nothing to worry about. We ran a bit longer than originally anticipated with this beta. A final release will be announced soon.

    • RE: Animation and the DR Spawner

if you haven't done so already, please submit a bug report. Animation is a rather large feature, and we want it working properly, so this should get high priority in our bug tracker. I know there have been some changes to how DR works with animation. Fernando told me yesterday that LC now works properly in animation, but I don't think he was using DR for those tests. He is out of the office today, but if you send in a bug report to our bug tracker, we will be sure to get to it at some point in the near future.
