I am using Twilight and this is my first attempt at a PR render!! When I ran it I got a huge big white square where the model was supposed to be and a picture I inserted in the background was the only thing visible during the render.

Not a great start. I did say I was a newbie and boy am I provong it now!!!

Photographic composition is definitely an area I need to work on Honolulu and I appreciate the heads up on what I should be aiming for here.

I will post the image I get when I pluck up the courage!!

Just tried that and light came flooding in via the wall which was removed by the section plane. How do I prevent this from happening?

I need to do quite a bit of work to get anywhere. I am slowly going through the tutorials on Twilight and trying to get some decent materials selected so that i can show something resembling a room shot - not looking forward to the c&c too much though LOL!!!

Hi Guys - I'm a total newbie to rendering and was inspired by all the amazing images generated here to invest in Twilight and I have also downloaded Kerkythea. I have a model of a new project I am working on with a very small footprint - How do I get a decent view set up to show the complete kitchen whilst still being in the room? I'm not a photographer either so any help on this will need to be in very simple terms!!!

I am impressed with your kitchen layout - only one comment - in the corners I suggest you make the doors bigger for access as slim doors mean difficulty in getting into them - 500mm (ca 9") is the minimum I use. Are you planning on using corner cupboard storage hardware such as "Magic Corners" or Le Mans Corners". The make use of most of the space in corners like this by taking everything out to you. I've attached pics of both to give you an idea about I'm talking about. Would love to be able to render my models like that!!!

I did an export to pdf and it printed fine. Just need to play around with LO to get my output improved. My intention is to present on A1 paper to really show all the elements of the design on one piece of paper so I really need to ge the hang of it.

Are there any specific guides to getting the best of layout?

Doing a design for a client and they want paper output!

I have taken the model over to LO and generated different views and when I set up my A3 printer and paper to A3 landscape and do a print preview the damn thing vanishes - not even the paper appears!!

What am I doing wrong? Tried attaching file but its way too big!!! What the !!!! Why are the so big???

Quite a while - what I should have done was to put the unit / top on its own layer then when I needed to clean up just turned off the layer and I would have been left with all the unwanted geometry.

I finally got it - jeez but i'm slow at this!!! Pic to prove it!

Does it take a huge chunk of processing power to do this as my machine is struggling big time to cope with this intersect with model.

I dont fully understand what he is telling me to do (my fault not gaieus!) Do I explode the top and then place the sink in position and intersect with model and then delete the sdurfaces marked by the intersection lines?

Sorry Guys - had to deal with two squealing kids and a dog there!!

Need to cut a hole in the worksurface of a unit to show the sink bowls(3d warehouse item). I dont know where to go after a couplke of hours trying to find a solution.

I have tried deleting the bottom surface, intersecting with model etc but I still cant get it to do what I need.

Any ideas - Please??????

I am a kitchen designer in Ireland and have just started using sketchup for my designs as it gives total freedom to me to design any piece. Other off the shelf kitchen design packages cost so much more and limit you to standard sizes and finishes. With sU and layout I can have total freedom to design anything and then present it to my clients.

I am a newbie to the program and even more so to Layout and its a fairly steep learning curve to go through when using it commercially but it will be worth it in the end.

I also intend to use rendering engines to further enhance my model for that wow factor.

Means alot coming from a talented SU guru like yourself. I have had some success with some models using the materials we discussed but I am busy learning SU the hard way - (making mistakes and trying not to repeat them) as I really want to do good NPR and ultimately PR renders to blow my clients away. I think a 2 year timescale working everyday to improve will get me to where I want to be.
