    • Assinging keyboard shortcuts

I looked and looked and could not find it. I wish for paint sample (not paint bucket) shortcut, so I could assign to my keyboard. Actually I wish for every function in palettes toolbar we were able to assign a keyboard shortcut.
      Thanks

or maybe there is one? any takers?

    • RE: SU 9 Wishlist

I have more of a dream than a wish and only one:

      1. import and handle large .obj files (trees, hedges, etc.), is this even possible for SU in next 12-24 months? or should I look into thea render, since I use SU+vray only.
What or which part of SU is responsible for not being able to handle such a big files?
Or could SU and vray do (in near future) something like thea render (instances in regards to tress, grass, flowers, hedges, etc.)

      cheers

Thanks notareal πŸ˜‰ your link worked and if it was not the link what Solo wrote, that is what I had/needed to see. I guess I'll be learing thea now and vray will be for some small renderings (interior maybe).
      cheers

davidh - I would still like to see how you compose your images (I believe there is SU modeling, thea, .objs or other models inserted and some cut out photography).
      great images!

Ehi Cmoreink: maybe you're using TIG's importer which is perfect but it's not written in C++ (faster).
I usually use the fluidimporter plugin, which is totally free (or at least it was some time ago). Go and download it here: http://www.fluidray.com/downloads

I use SU7, does it work with it? I use this .obj plugin http://www.scriptspot.com/sketchup/scripts/obj-importer

Forget it, just installed your plugin and it does nothing, I mean there is nothing, it looks like SU8 plugin.

Hmm. SU does import 3ds and obj! where is the problem?

It does imports .obj, but it's not a standard, you have to get a plugin.

I just installed a .obj plugin and imported, SU has been calculating now for over 10 minutes... still waiting, we'll see, keep your fingers cross. I just might have to look into thea.

    • RE: Thea renders - garden

I use vray ans SU, so I would have to bring the models straight to SU. I tried to import them to SU after exporting from 3ds max as .3ds since SU doesn't read .obj files, but no luck 😞.
Or maybe I'm just doing something wrong? I have also tried bringing them as .dwg or .dxf and it's no go either 😞
Does any one have an idea on how to do that?
      thanks in advance

Just like I thought πŸ˜‰ great images Dadvidh. Since you can't bring .max to SU and you bring them as .obj, do you loose any detail in those models?
Would like to see how the last image NPR was composed.
      Thanks for your time.

    • RE: House concept and it's rendering

I would not go by the doorknob. First of all the doorknob or the door is two stairs up off the ground.
While working with a survey crew I learn one basic thing, you always reference from a solid (hard to move) object if you don't have an IP: FH (fire hydrant), concrete curb, MH (manhole), light pole, etc.
In my case (sketchup), it's ground (0,0,0).

John, did not have time on this one and the client does not care, next time will.

TomDC, I was told that I'm a perfectionist which sometimes does not play out well πŸ˜‰ I will definitely take your advise for future renderings to come.

mystix89, if you would like I could email you the material.

oganocali, I will do the changes and post them as soon as possible. Unfortunately, yesterday I had a small accident while rollerblading. My wrist is swollen, in pain, did not sleep all night and I'm riding on pain killers πŸ˜„

Thanks for you time and have a great weekend.

Carloh - texture is from http://www.arroway-textures.com I believe that they have the best ones with all the maps and if you do this for living it's worth every penny.

TomDC - it so happens that I am a photographer and I always try to show and achieve "real world" lighting in my renders. It's early in the morning around 10:00 and the sun is located behind on right, if you look at the shadows on the trees, so you will not get that much real sun in the room.
Towels, I'm still learning how to do them, I used fur plugin to get some effect (but like you say-not soft, I agree). I will try do some changes as per C&C.

Thanks for your time and C&C guys. Always good to hear other sketchupers's point of view.

    • Bathroom with a killer view - concept

Update: got my new laptop few days ago and I decided to put it to a test. Same image, resolution on image A was 1600px and B 2400px. Higer resolution and 300% faster πŸ˜„ Image B has a focal length at 16mm and A at 24mm. Camera at the same location. Image B has also a displacement map used for dark towels.

Bathroom model was downloaded from the warehouse but I heavily remodeled (walls, floor, sinks, shower, cabinets, ceiling, window, mirror, tub and the killer view of course). It took me about 2 days to remodeled and textured including 5 hrs of rendering with vray and some pp work in ps. I work on dell inspiron i3, 4gb ram, radeon hd 5450.
      Looking for some good C&C.
      cheers
