How did you model the bamboo lashings?
      Best,
      dh

Each lashing was made using three planes and intersecting them with the stretchers offsetting the center one and then using loft by spline. I had originally used helix along curve but didn't like the look.

    • Three Sectional Hassock

While is not exactly a "Transformer Pencil", I was encouraged by David to post more. I shall.

This is a piece I inherited from my Grandparents, no one else wanted it. While I don't have a clue as to the actual date of this piece, I remember it at their house from the late '50s.

I loved the "Ying Yang" of the piece, so to speak.

      like your Transformer Pencil.

I wish I could but I gave all of them to my grandsons for Christmas. Actually, I'm more a fan of rOtring.

      But thank you!

Wow. That's really beautiful. Looks hard to make.

      Thank you for the compliment!

It was sort of like using SU.

Once I got the general shape figured out, I was able to make a master template that I used as a "follow me" tool to do all the radius work on the top, bottom, and all the molding using router guides and various offsets.

For me, the hardest part was fitting the drawer boxes to the drawer faces. Getting the mortices in the drawer fronts to accept the tenons on the draw sides was exasperating and I blew up a drawer front whilst I was trying to seat it with a rubber mallet. Luckily a few clamps and glue got it together again.

It was a learning experience and I still have all the templates, jigs and forms I used to build it.

It did take quite a bit of time, more than I care to admit.

    • Bow-front Cabinet

I built this thing about eight years ago. I drew it in Auto-CAD. I got the basic shape down and winged it from there. The molding profiles are just what I had on hand for my shaper, so it's nothing fancy.

The cabinet is solid maple and maple plywood. The doors and drawer fronts I did cooper style and spent hours sanding them smooth. The top is mahogany and cherry. I had a good-sized chunk of mahogany, but after I joined and planed it I didn't have the width. So I split and threw a few inches of cherry in the middle.

I'll add a picture of it as soon as I have a chance, I have never gotten around to staining and finishing the cabinet, just the top.

      Merry Christmas to all!

That's a beautiful model! Adding the knurling, really did the trick!

I have that same locomotive but probably a slightly later early 1950's version, as it had pellets to drop down the smokestack and the transformer provided the forward/backward motion. I see that the one you have has a three position switch for that, so your train goes sidewards? πŸ˜‰

Still need to add the screw threads, labels, and Lionel logo. Having a hard time finding a suitable font for the labels.

When you first posted this a few months ago I got curious and searched for it. Correct me please if I'm wrong, but it would seem that this is the same Lionel, whose trains I've owned since the early '50s?
And I hate to say it but from all the ones I looked at, I think you are missing an eye-bolt, I might be wrong...Never mind, I see you have it in your latest version.

Thank you HornOxx, I just uploaded it to the warehouse.

No one will want it, it clocks in at 31 megs, a new record for me! I modeled my entire building at one-third of that. The stupid little feet account for about half of the size.

Oh well, one of these days I'll learn how to use SU correctly! πŸ˜†

I thought I'd throw something in here.

I'm not particularly happy about the texture in the render, or the render in general...oh well.

The stupid little feet took me longer than the table did. I thought it would be a good chance to practice SubD, but I finally got it (close enough) with Curviloft.

      Oh, it's a Brandt, Flip-top game/tea table, probably from about 1940.

    • RE: Online time tracker app with screenshots for billing client?

Although it doesn't support screenshots and it's not an online app, I use Fredo6's "Time Clock". It incorporates being able to set idle time and breaks it down to month, day, and hours spent on a model. It exports to cvs,and other formats. It also breaks down how much time was spent using a specific tool. Line, erase, orbit etc.

Although I'm sure someone can give you a better answer and include a GIF, which I can't do.

I would draw all of your linework on a single plane (like a simple 2D elevation) and then use "Move" holding the "ALT" key to auto-fold your selections.

I'm sorry I know I've not made it clear, I'll try to follow it up with an example.

If you are using Chrome, it was suggested on the SketchUp Community board that it might be because Skalp has is still using HTTP instead of HTTPS.

I don't know if this is the reason or not, but...

      Thank you.

The bronze gong is only 16 inches in diameter. It makes me wonder what sort of household would use a gong to call people for dinner. I'd think the upper crust would be the ones to afford something like this in those days but they'd have a butler to announce that dinner is served.

Didn't the Addams Family have one of those? And Lurch banged it.

      I like it!

      Hey all,

I'm watching this thread with interest.

Liam, I'll bet you can do it!

I've not spent much time fooling with Subd. But what has puzzled me in any tutorials I've watched, how do you have any idea what the end product will look like and that it will end up as being accurate?

Is it just a matter of practice? Clicking back and forth in Subd?
