Thanks pbacot
I had forgotten to use intersect faces. That makes it a lot better.

Follow Me tool for odd shapes
Hello
I am trying to make a box which is a tapered square with rounded sides and a curved top. I would have thought that the Follow me tool would handle this but it breaks up the rounded top as you can see in this image showing the steps I've used. Am I doing something wrong or is it just that follow me can't close the top in correctly? Is there another tool that can do this?

RE: [Plugin] [CityGen] - Street Generator [WIP] (0.5.2a)
These posts are so old I don't know if anyone will pick up on this again, but I'm trying to breathe some new life into this project as I feel it's too good not to be continued.
I sent a message to ThomThom on the status of this project and have had a reply from him*"unfortunately none of the ones that worked on this in the beginning appear to have time
any more. And no one have wanted to pick it up.However, it's been somewhat hidden away on Google Code - ...... So I just migrated it to GitHub: https://github.com/thomthom/citygen
Maybe it can get better exposure there."*
Hopefully with this move to github it will get more exposure and someone completing and extending the code, and becoming a valuable tool in SketchUp.

RE: [Plugin] Simple Building Generator
These tools are so useful for urban modelling. Thanks to all you developers who have put a lot of time into coding these plugins.
ThomThom mentioned above that he has felt bad about the CityGen project coming to a standstill. What a pity it's not continuing. I have been hunting for months for SKU plugins and other software that can export to SKU (eg in Collada format) to assist with street / city modelling and in a number of places I have looked I find projects partly finished and discontinued. City Engine is great but it's huge bucks when you come to add the plugins in to export in, say, Collada format.
So, to encourage all you coders - there are many of us, I'm sure, who would love to see a comprehensive urban modelling addition for SketchUp. Don't stop the coding please.
Best regards,

RE: [Plugin] [CityGen] - Street Generator [WIP] (0.5.2a)
The CityGen plugins that you guys were working on are really great and I'm hoping that this will become a real city builder. We need one. Thanks for the work you have already done.
I see the last posts for this plugin appear to be around early 2010. Are you still working on this project?
I have been trying to get the plugin(s) to work and so far have managed to get the street_gen to work.
I can't seem to get bldg_gen going but I wondering if there should be an associated folder "bldg_gen" to go with bldg_gen.rb in the Modules folder.ThomThom, you give a skp file CityBuilder_stree2.skp as a sample to test and the road centre lines are coloured which I presume is for the road categories. Where, how or what program generated this file? ie how are these lines coloured in and categorised to produce the variable road widths that your sample does?
Is there a link that you can share that will give some guide to installing and using CityGen and its plugings?
Sorry that I have so many questions but I would really love to get as much of this working as possible. I have already found that street_gen has saved me loads of time in creating streets from a centre-line CAD drawing.
Thanks

RE: Offset multiple lines
Thom Thom's CityGen is exactly what I'm looking for but how do we get it to work?
What vers of SketchuUp will run the plugin and is there a link to the plugin(s) that are needed?
Is there a guide to getting the plugin(s) up and working?
Thanks

RE: Offset multiple lines
Thanks for the suggestions. I will try them out. The CityGen plugin looks great but I don't see updates since 2009. I wonder if the plugin will work with 2016.

Offset multiple lines
Hello
I'm using SketchUp Pro 2016
Does anyone know of a plug-in that can offset multiple "lines"? I have a need to be able to offset the centre line DXF drawings of a road network to create 3D images of an area.
I've hunted for such a plug-in but can only find "multiple face offset" which won't look at the lines.
Using the standard offset tool I have to select a whole line along its length and then offset it, say, 7 metres to one side and then 7 metres to the other side. I then have to do the same to all the other roads and then tidy up the the cross-overs (intersections).
If I could just have the basic offset on both sides of the road lines it would make the task very quick even if I have to tidy up all of the crossovers (intersections)myself.
I have attached a sample image to show what I'm trying to do.
In anticipation,
Garth

RE: Converting components to groups & deleting coplanar GROUPS?
Hi Jackson. To speed up your rendering have to tried to simply select the entire model, right click and set everything to Static. You can reset it all back to Dynamic as needed. I work with large city models too and this speeds up rendering a lot.

RE: Profile Builder 2
Profile Builder 2 is great!
I am using it to draw road layouts from profiles of the cross-section of a road with curbs and sometimes a median as well. The road extrudes beautifully along lines but when you join another road or have a road crossing the curbing and median follows right through the other road.
Is there any way to have these joints/crossings show up as a normal road would? When you follow a corner the road behaves correctly and extends one edge and reduces the other edge, so could the curbing and medians be removed automatically at crossings and junctions?
