Rocket Dock is great! I have been using it for years. I could not function without it on my PC.

RE: A big frigging L desk
Thanks again Dave, it will take me a minute to digest, understand & then put that to use. What has happened to me is I have taught myself these bad habits. I will keep working at it and practicing. I am gonna look around at some other L shaped desks and see if I can find some design ideas I can borrow

RE: A big frigging L desk
I am learning as I go Dave. And that is why I posted. To get some more tips, tricks, ideas & thoughts on things I am doing wrong. So go ahead and let her rip. I am saving up some $ for a domino and a bigger planer or drum sander. Probably be a drum sander since my 12"-13" little grizzly planer does mostly all I have ever asked of it. But I have been eyeballing a domino for awhile now.
Thanks Dave I am not sure exactly what all to do with this desk if ya get bored and want to add to it, fix things that would be great. But like I said in my first post this was a rough draft so I was going to keep working it over as time allowed. So go easy on me. -
In the wrong profession. The boring things I use SKUP for.
I work at wholesale pressure washer / parts & manufacturing company. This is some of the not so fun stuff I get paid to slap together in sketchup.
A lot of it gets made in china. Some of it does get made on site or locally. I sometimes wish we sold houses or something a little more interesting. Pressure washer parts and manufacturing does get a little boring after 16 years doing this. But business is booming and the company has grown every year since the start. So I suppose I should just consider myself lucky I have a good job. Any ways this is mainly the kinds of things I am working on when sketchup is running. A couple pressure washer frames and a hose reel.

A big frigging L desk
I am putting together a man cave / office / gaming room. And I need a desk, a big solid desk. So I started on this monstrosity. Nothing is set in stone.
Some of the proportions are probably off on some of it. Just a rough draft I guess you could say. I will start working on it over the winter months. Probably use solid oak for most of it. Just putting it here to see what some of the woodworkers in here thought.

RE: ALienware x51?
You could build a faster PC yourself. Probably for less.

RE: Wacom Pen in SketchUp?
Sonder I would say the difference between a space nav & a standard 3 button mouse is night & day!!
The space nav is very easy on the wrist. There is next to no movement to get movement on screen. And your hand rests more like you were holding a cup which I think is much more comfortable for extended use, rather than the bottom of your wrist on the desk. You should try one. I am saving up for a Wacom tablet should have one in the next month or so. -
RE: Anyone Using a 3D Mouse?
Well I got the space navigator this morning, have got to play with it a little. I think I am really gonna like it. It will take a little while to get the hang of, but when I do it will for sure be faster for me navigating around models.

RE: Anyone Using a 3D Mouse?
I have a space navigator on the way from NewEgg. The young fella in the video that is linked a couple posts up sure did a good review, and sold me on it.

RE: A Welcome Message to New SketchUcation Members
Hello all just thought I would quit lurking and introduce myself. My name is Cory I am from northwest Pennsylvania. I work for my father at Barens Inc we sell pressure washers, parts & accessories all wholesale, all over world.
I have been here since I turned 16 and am now 31, I started at the bottom scrubbing toilets and sweeping floors, pulling orders packing orders, manufacturing, accnts payable accnts receiving.
We have a few in house brands that we have manufactured in china. I am now learning SketchUP to design some of our parts & accessories. Pressure Washer Frames, Hose Reels, High Pressure fittings & swivels. And whatever else the boss wants designed.
The ultimate goal is to be able to send a technical drawing/blueprint to our manufacturer in china and them be able to build from it.
I would say I am making good progress learning this cool little program, I have been playing with it for only 6-7 weeks so far and have learned a bunch from this great site you all have here. And would like to thank you all for the info you have all provided so far and for the help I am sure will be needed in the future.
It amazes me how much better you all have made the vanilla sketchup with your plugins and ruby scripts.
I am also going to be learning autocad in time because I am not sure which will be better for our needs. But I will be focusing on sketchup for now.
Thanks again & nice to meet you all.
