    • Slope along a path

Sorry for asking so many questions recently. But I have another one:

I am drawing a road up to a house. I have curved it so that I can actually get to the house at a max 20% slope.

I have worked out that the road is 133' long and the height from road to house is 20' therefore leaving my road at 15% WINNING!

However, I can't figure out how to draw it. I want the road to be a continual 15% along the center-line. Any tips?

    • RE: Missing lines in Layout

We've been trying a few things out to test it and see what is causing it.

Main items we have been looking at which we think might cause it are:

      • Materials being applied to lines (I don’t understand why texture can be added to lines anyway)
      • Hidden lines causing faces to be invisible in section cuts in LO
      • Materials being applied to groups

Still trying to narrow it down but we're pretty busy so it's taking time. I will let you know if I crack it.

We may have to look into you're method of layering viewports but I have a bad feeling about it. I don't know why but I feel more comfortable with just 1 viewport. Maybe it's something I should look into.

      That didn't go well.

I'll try experimenting a bit more. Thanks for the help though Tig.

      Just a quick question.

Has anyone got a way to flatten a 3D model to 2D?

Instead of intersecting the road marking boxes with the road plane. Could you use the drape tool to drop the 2d linework of the road markings onto the road plane.

If someone could simplify what I just said that would be great. Not sure if that made sense.

    • RE: Missing lines in Layout

Thanks Utiler and sorry for taking so long to get back to you. However, the fix has not worked on fixing the line issue. When you saved the model after editing the material properties in SU you did not turn section cuts back on. Thus, in LO the model was no longer a section cut when updated.

I do appreciate your effort though, and would love some more help. I have created a video showing the method you described and how it didn't work. I have also found a solution. Though it's not the solution I wanted.

The problem was hidden lines. For some reason if a plane has a section cut through it and the plane also has a hidden line. The plane (line in section cut) will not show in LO.

This is particularly annoying as we like to use a few hidden lines when showing elevations. (So we can seperate our upper and lower floor 3D walls but have them look as 1 item in elevation.)

Please take a look at this video:

Thanks for your help so far guys.

I have posted the LO and SU file below:

      SU:
      https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7Q2w3DhNLeucWZwYUg3WWR6MGs/view?usp=sharing

      LO:
      https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7Q2w3DhNLeuM1F1MVljUkxZTmc/view?usp=sharing

I can't see it being a problem with file size as I have cut the file size down a lot for you to view them. Still has the same issue though.

Let me know what you think.

    • RE: @#$%^&* edit SU model reference in LayOut

It is really annoying. I try and get round it by having all sketchup 'viewports' in a locked layer. This means you can't double click into them.

    • RE: Components / Blocks in LO

We do have them set on every drawing. It would just be cool if we could make changes across all files. Like maybe an insertable LO file as an x-ref or something.

    • RE: Missing lines in Layout

The lines are visible in Hybrid but are raster lines, meaning we cannot snap dimensions to them. It also means we have to have the drawing on hybrid instead of vector which is slower to load.

The line is not a different color. If it were there our dimensions would still snap to it.

We've only seen this happen on a few of our jobs, but would really like a fix.

    • Components / Blocks in LO

Does anyone know if it is possible to create components or 'blocks' (like autocad) in LO? Meaning we could edit something in a title block and it would change across all drawings (for example).

Just curious as we would find that really useful for amending drawing titles across multiple drawings.

    • Missing lines in Layout

      Hello all,

I'm having some trouble with some missing lines in LO.

The lines are created by section cut in SU and are on the exterior wall. As you can see most lines show up but some don't. They show up in sketchup and on LO when rendered in raster. The lines do not show up in vector which is annoying when trying to dimension.

Anyone have any ideas on a fix?

I have attached some images below:

    • RE: Re-alignment of dimensions when scene is moved

It is possible to link dimension lines to vector lines in LO (make sure sketchup renders to vector or hybrid in layout). Then click the dimensions on the vector lines.

I try to avoid this problem by never changing my view of the scene in SU before updating the scene. Then make sure your 'viewport' is on a layer which you keep locked as much as possible. This will stop your SU model moving around the page every time you update your scene to LO.

      Hope that makes sense/helps.

Windows only allows one default printer so we would have to switch printers every time. I guess this needs to be addressed by Trimble in the next version as this is such a pain in the ass.
