Hi all,
Have created a 2013 dwg from Revit. When imported into SU Pro 2014 I cant see annotations or dims.
When I import it back into Revit, they are there, so the dwg seems fine.
The above shows that SU ignores the text and dims.. Why?Any ideas?

What settings are you tweaking in LO that you can't in SU?
Note that if you tweak things in LO and you see (Modified) listed in the SU dialog for the Scene name, its not going to render what SU is rendering- that's what (Modified) means, you modified the Scene in some way, so LO takes a snapshot of the Scene because it thinks since you modified the Scene you want your changes to stick. LO will only match what you see in SU if you have a Scene selected in LO and it isn't marked (Modified). Also, if you change the shadow light/dark settings, you need to update the Scene afterwards to capture the new settings and LO will only render those new settings if the Scene isn't

Actually by the mention of tweaking in this instance, read reorientation of maybe a perspective view, to suit the final presentation on an A3 paper. This process is not fast and easy, as often a rerender is needed to see an incremental window crop or positioning.
What you have explained makes perfectly clear sense, and I can see why it has been thought out like that. But in my way of thinking, perhaps the application of this thinking is a little flawed in practice.
I will explain why. It takes a fair while for me to orient, and position a perspective architectural shot in LO. I'm sure many people get pedantic at LO stage too, there is a certain graphic composition that needs to be obtained. No way could I have preplanned that exact position in SU without seeing the final against my presentation sheet and other components. I finally get positioned and realise a test print shows the shadows a bit dark. So, you would naturally assume a quick tweak of shadows in SU and rerender in LO. But actually it means I have to choose that scene again and go through the fairly cumbersome orienting and positioning of the object.@unknownuser said:

---my approach to this would be that if you updated a scene for shadows you would want to see that result in LO.
ALso I see in LO there are shadow settings for time and date, could not light and dark be brought across too?

The Cause.
The essence of this problem is that Layout doesn't seem to hook onto SU shadows unless there is a scene saved in SU, and in layout you must choose that scene before orienting it anyway you wish. You will then receive the proper shadows.
One I figured that, I thought cool, and proceeded on. Did a test print and found my shadows were a bit dark, so I lightened them in SU,(no adjustment for that in LO,)saved, rereferenced in LO, and rerendered the results in LO.
BUT the lighter shadows did not happen in the LO render. (Here's the bad bit)...I had to go choose that scene again in LO and reorient and position it all again in LO just for the shadows adjustment to update. (About this time LO decided to crash a lot, so I restarted and purged and saved every image done.)
You might say, why not create scenes in SU to match the ones you want in LO. But everyone has to tweak their images and orientations in LO for the final presentation. Especially concept stuff.
What I might do from now on is create roughly similiar scenes at least to the ones I will need in LO, so I don't spend hours retweaking.
If the powers that be consider this a bug, then feel free to move it there. I think it is.

A materials texture question
While I am trying to adapt old materials to making new ones, I would like to access the same texture files as some of them have. Whereabouts are they kept? Are the texture jpgs within the material file, unable to be extracted as a jpeg for use for other things?

This time I caught the little bugger.
Took a snip of both the sketchup file AND the layour file.
The layout file was referenced and updated to the sketchup file.
The sketchup file was geolocated to about 50k from Melbourne, Australia...+10UTC.
There seems to be no adjustments for shadows in Layout apart from time, and date.
Maybe it is not listening to sketchups Geo location.
The shadows seem to be about 180 out. Both set to 3pm, 22 september.
I shut down and started both Sketchup and Layout before I took these.
I thought I would post this before I wake up tomorrow, and it is sorted, like last time.

I have looked again at the offending layout document, and it seems to be behaving now. It definitely wasn't when I was creating it. I will be keeping an eye on this little problem in future. thanks for your help.

How about the ability to incorporate equations into the measurements box, a la revit type equations. E.G. move command, then in box
=3000+(1000/3)
and the object moves 3333 mm.
I so miss that function in SU. -

I just went to make a simple example, a cube located melbourne australia, then compared shadows on and off in model and LO. They were the same. Where I had problems was another job that I better analyse deeper, because it had about 20 scenes in it, and maybe the shadow time settings were different between the scenes or something. From what I remember though, the shadows instigated from LO were actually looking like northern hemisphere shadows, thats what got me concerned. Whatever was happening, the shadows when instigated from LO didnt seem to match the shadows when I turned them on in SU.
I'll do more investigation on that particular model, probably will find out it's finger trouble.

LO3 shadows don't have locality
I have just noticed that LO3 shadows don't seem to have a locality and therefore accurate shadows for the model.
I had to geo locate the SU model as a scene with shadows, and use those as the referenced image. Does this mean that LO3 when it interrogates the SU file, does not sense the geo-location? -

This threw me as well once and I think I ended up making a style called **nosection.
I like the layers one though. Think thats rather a nice workaround. It sure had me bamboozled though for a while.
