Thanks CHARLIE__V, now it is clear. It is the best way... (Strange, these errors in the resulting patterns - but I can live with it...)

Thank you CHARLIE__V for your idea. What I do not understand: I installed the Hatch Faces plugin (V1.8) and I can now successfully hatch faces - but I do not understand how to select "brick" hatch and how to orient it. Could you make some screenshots ore point me to somewhere I can see what you mean?

Thank you Dave; Well, that is the way I performed it for the screen shots. But however, this is not very handy. I thought that there is an easier way like intersect two groups or something like that.

    • Crop a group by the contours of an area

      Dear all

I have a group of areas:

      http://adrianbader.no-ip.org/misc/sketchup/4/001.jpg

      Then I have an area:

      http://adrianbader.no-ip.org/misc/sketchup/4/002.jpg

How can I crop the group to fit into the area to get this:

      http://adrianbader.no-ip.org/misc/sketchup/4/003.jpg

I am drawing a floor plan of our new footway tho show to the gardener, how exactly he should put the stones: (the red / yellow areas should be filled with the pattern (in different angles and different sizes).

      http://adrianbader.no-ip.org/misc/sketchup/4/004.jpg

Since this filling pattern needs to have an exact size (each stone needs to be exactly drawn in the right size), I think that I cannot use a material to fill the area (because this would be an image, on which I can not influence exactly the size, angle, position...)

Does anybody have a solution for that?
      Thanks in advance,

    • Define Segment Length of an Arc

      Dear All

I am looking for a possibility to enter the length of the segements in an Arc instead of the number.
If we draw an Arc, we can enter e.g. 20s to get 20 segments. But I like to have segments with exactly 1m length (the last segment will probably shorter, if it does not fit exactly).
Is this not possible? Or is there a work around?

      Thanks in advance!

    • RE: Build a path with a given rise

Thank you all for your hints. I will try them.

Currently, I have problems installing SplitSausage plugin; even though I downloaded TIG-splitTOOLS-20120219a.rbz and installed it, I have no toolbar; I also tried TIG-splitTOOLS-20120219a.zip and copied it to the plugins folder. After restarting Sketchup 8, nothing has been changed; no toolbar in View->Toolsbars...
Well; I will try to get it or will try another way...

    • Build a path with a given rise

      Dear all,

I have again a question. I am still drawing on my house...
now, the new stone path needs to be inserted with a given rise:

      http://adrianbader.no-ip.org/misc/sketchup/3/image1.jpg

The red part should go linearly down to the gateway of the garage.
      How can I do that?

      The drawing:

      Thanks in advance!

    • RE: How to draw surrounding area of house

Ah, OK, that it is. Instead of Push/Pull to go back to the face, I can use Move and the down arrow. That is what I was looking for.
      Once more: thanks a lot!

    • RE: How to draw surrounding area of house

Well, pressing Ctrl will keep the whole original body instead of just leaving the face.

    • RE: Problems drawing a surface for a roof

      Hi Jean Lemire

Thank you too for your drawing and your tipps in the drawing.
I have one question: your lines looks much smoother than mines / i.e. the basic points are not shown in your drawing. This looks pretty bether than mine.
      How can I achieve that?

    • RE: How to draw surrounding area of house

Thank you Gaieus, it is incredible, your fast and excellent help! I will try it in the afternoon!

      Of-Topic:
If we have a surface (e.g. created by some lines) on the bottom, then we use push/pull e.g. +2m to build a body: now, if we push/pull it down again by 2m -> the surface is deleted. Can we avoid that? - Or: what is the best way to modify the footprint of this push/pulled body, if we want to apply this new footprint also on top of the body? - I hope you understand, what I mean.

      Thanks a lot,

    • How to draw surrounding area of house

      Dear all

I tried to draw our house (http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=79&t=50439) and now I need to draw the sourrounding area because we will need a drawing for our gardener to let him make the new stone path / retaining wall and to use the drawing also as annex for the building application.

I really have problems drawing that. We have a lot of faces and flanks on our parcel and I have no idea, how to do that. I tried it with sandbox tool. But it seems not to be the best way or at least I have difficulties.

      Some images of our parcel:

      A first try:

      http://adrianbader.no-ip.org/misc/sketchup/2/model.jpg

(I know, I have not yet executed all your tipps from thread http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=79&t=50439 - I will do it as soon as I have the time...)
-> The rounded stone path must also be lowered... I know, a lot of work.

Do you have some tipps, how to go about that? - It must not be perfect; I cannot afford a lot of time - some hours, not some days...
      Any idea?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Hey, thank you all for your help and comments!! I see, I have to learn a lot...
Especially, thanks to Gaieus for this step by step guide.

And yes, the floor plan is exactly according the drawings. (The house was built in 1961.)

    • Problems drawing a surface for a roof

      Hello everybody

I am new here and also quite new to Google Sketchup. I am drawing our house to use it later as the base for a building application.

I have problems finishing the roof; it seems to be quite tricky. Can someone help me finish this? - I think it is clear what is missing:

      http://adrianbader.no-ip.org/misc/MissingRoof_1.jpg

      http://adrianbader.no-ip.org/misc/MissingRoof_2.jpg

As you can see, the base ground of where the roof is missing is not a simple rectangle...
The roof should be one surface wihtout any bend.

      Here is the full design:
      http://adrianbader.no-ip.org/misc/MyHouse_PartOfRoofMissing.skp

Can someone help me finish that?

      • Thanks in advance!
