I just set a Sketchup Pro 8 model to meters when I should have had it set to mm. It behaved pretty weird - kinda like you are describing in SU2013. Is it possible that there is an error in the way SU 2013 reads measurement and that is causing it to freak out?

RE: Render Question....
Thanks for the info - thats a lot of help.
I do so many hacky little tricks with SU that I've reached a point where I just want solid stuff that works, rather than spending time trying to figure out whats going wrong and where (entirely my fault most of the time)

RE: SU13 inference engine
I know nothing about mac - just saw that thread as I was digging for a solution to the problem my friend is having on Vista.

RE: SU13 inference engine
Or perhaps your problem (being that you are on a mac) is related to this: https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!msg/sketchup/trmXYw1MZV4/kjLayBMu5s0J

RE: SU13 inference engine
I haven't upgraded to SU 2013 because someone I work with is having this exact issue - they are running Vista 32 bit on a pretty old laptop but had no issues on SU 8.....
Has anyone found a workaround and is it related to this: https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!msg/sketchup/fN_Vp_dx-fQ/Ix-lVoEp0csJ

RE: Render Question....
So Thea is built differently to KT? - My assumption was that they are built on the same base...
The example you linked to on the KT forum is pretty elementary - I haven't seen anything with KT that supports multiple instances...

RE: How to change the density of the emitters?
Anton, you wrote Sketchyphysicstools.rb and controllercomands.rb yourself?
Have you posted these in a separate thread so everyone can benefit from them?
Fantastic work, I'm really impressed

RE: Render Question....
This thread is really helpful but I want to get more input from you folks who have a little more rendering experience.
I do object animations from time to time that require rendering and they can be from anywhere between 30 seconds and four minutes. I currently use Twilight and I love its ease of use as I don't do this enough to justify learning all the ins and outs of complex render software. However, when I do a longer object animation at higher resolutions in Twilight it really makes my machine (i7 laptop with Nvidia GPU) work its guts out and the animations take an inordinate amount of time.
There seems to be very little support from render farms for Twilight, I understand that this is because it is based on KT and KT isn't very network render friendly.....
What I need is a renderer that I can preview short animations with by rendering overnight on my local laptop and then send off to a renderfarm once Im happy with the final job. I love Twilight but I'm not sure it is the right tool for this.
I have checked out Thea, Maxwell and Indigo and they all seem to support multiple nodes.
What do people recommend as good "bang for buck"?
If you recommend Thea, please explain why it won't face the same network render limitations as Kerkythea.
I'm also interested as to how difficult it would be to run renders on AWS with these renderers that support multiple nodes....

RE: I can't export form skp 8 pro to dwg?
Yeah I'm having this problem too - except that absolutely nothing will export to DWG or DXF in 2D format. Even if I open a new file and draw a rectangle and then try to export, sketchup just crashes.
Exporting to 3D is no problem - am I having a clash with a plugin?

RE: You are now editing multiple components
Do we have any more options with the advent of SU 2013?
What can I do to help move this forward as I'm struggling with some of the documentation again - is there a way I can use pickray to position the note in the current version more accurately?
Dan, what is involved in getting the transparent window or WebDialog working?

RE: MAchinery Simulation
Cool 2D simulation - whats the sketchfab example about?

RE: MAchinery Simulation
DARPA's stuff is real nice - I wonder if they are using a physics simulation environment to rapidly test their ideas in a low cost environment....
It amazes me that SketchyPhysics isn't utilized more.
I rigged up a proposed piece of machinery recently for an engineer with decades of experience under his belt - when he saw me driving the machine on the screen it clarified a lot for him in terms of control, balance and just a better understanding of the dynamics of the machine - he was amazed.
To impress a seasoned design engineer with only a few days work indicates a couple of things:
- You're using a great tool
- Knowledge about its use has not been disseminated well enough

RE: MAchinery Simulation
Nice,
Next project? Make a working model of "Big Dog"

Check it out on youtube

PS: thats a cool bomb disposal unit - got a link to a file I can tinker with

RE: MAchinery Simulation
This model isn't under intellectual property agreement - I was saying that other jobs I work on are under IP. You can totally pull this one apart - use the scene manager and change the scene descriptions so that the camera "tracks" and "follows" certain objects during the simulation. Turn on the physics joints layer to see the objects I have set to track for certain scenes.

MAchinery Simulation
G'day all,
I've been wanting to build this for some time but it was a little trickier than I expected. I do simulation with SP like this quite a lot but can't share them as they are under intellectual property agreements.
The model is JM@Ns (modified) and there is a SP rig of this in the 3D warehouse but it doesn't have the same functionality.
I hope this inspires you to create some cool stuff yourselves, enjoy:

RE: SketchUcation MUST BE MAD! UPDATE 23/07/2013
Does "before we go back to sanity" infer that I need to download all this stuff before you take it away again? Or do you suffer from the same kind of madness that I do - the irreversible kind - which would allow me to leave this stuff online and simply download it when I need it?

RE: Mantinence release coming soon.
SU 2013 doesn't appear to have any drastic changes - I hope it hasn't thrown up any hurdles to SP development? http://www.sketchup.com/products/sketchup-pro/new-in-2013
