Does a "color by layer" style exist?
Hi guys,
So I'm about 6 months into a pretty big project, and I've been using color by layer as my method of coloring things. Therefore my base model, when 'color by layer' option in the Layers window is OFF, everything is one color. Is there a way to make a style, or does one exist, such that it will mimic the behavior of the Layer window's 'color by layer' option?
My problem is that when I take my drawing into Layout, I have my Scenes set up so that when I import them, they remain exactly the way it looked in SU. However, when I edit the viewport, to pan or zoom, etc., then exit the viewport, the model reverts to the base colors of the model.
Normally I would be able to right click>styles>"style-used-at-time-of-scene-making", and my colors would go back just as if I used color by layer. But now I do not have as many scenes available in that path.
I think the reason for this is because as of late, I have started breaking chunks off of my master model and saving them as a separate model to keep the file size down. I think the reason I could switch my colors back to normal is that I somehow came up with a scene in my master model that used color by layer somehow.
I can work around it by just re-sizing the viewport and adjusting scale accordingly (in LO)
All in all Im just curious to see if you can have a style that colors by layer.
Also, can you import styles between models? Thanks guys

RE: Dim text covers extension lines
It would be pretty neat if they did put together slightly different versions with each one leaning towards a different usage, ie. construction drawings, or conceptual drawings, etc. Maybe even offer a Lite version and an "AutoDesk-esque " version if you will with all the bells and whistles

RE: Dim text covers extension lines
True that. I can't imagine being a developer at SU/LO. Everyone want/needs 10 different things for 50 different types of work. A full blown autodesk monstrosity is on the way if we ask for too much I'm afraid

RE: Dim text covers extension lines
It seems if they had put as much effort into the dim settings as they did the text settings, we'd be good to go. But hey, at least theres any settings at all unlike sketchup. Now we're talkin apples, oranges and gripes. Heh, get it

Great guys. I'll play around with it at work today and report any new findings.
Thanks! -
RE: Dim text covers extension lines
Yea that's what I typically do. The explode teqnique. I wish there was just a setting in dim style.
I wonder if you can explode then rearrange the stuff then group it and use the format painter. Probably just fix one up, put it in a scrap book for small dims then paste and resize where needed

Dim text covers extension lines
Hey guys,
When I'm dimensioning a small gap, it is common for the dimension text to cover up the extension lines and hash marks and the other lines associated with the dimension, its like the text box has a fill that cannot be removed. Is there any other way to get around this without having to explode the dimension?
Thanks guys,
Ashe

RE: Dimension and lineweight/linetype issues
Dave,
Thanks for the quick responses! I did notice the dims were kind of dancing in and out of the walls when orbiting. I wonder if the camera setting (parallel/perspective) WHILE placing these dimensions is the driving factor behind their visibility? I typically model in parallel, then switch to perspective for prints. I'm pretty sure I created the first set of dims in parallel and the second "invisible" set in perspective while I was going back in my work to tweak it. I'll have to tinker into that one.I'll make sure to keep an eye on camera settings and try to hold dims off surfaces a bit until we can get our paws on some new software.
Thanks for your time, Dave.
