    • RE: 2D CAD export problem SKP Pro 8

Thanks Kaas. I have worked it out. I have a skydome in the model and although it does not interrupt the view in sketchup it hides it when exporting. Switched it off and all is well.

Simple, but took me a few hours to work it out.... First time I have used a skydome in a long while.

    • 2D CAD export problem SKP Pro 8

      Hi,

For some reason my CAD export has stopped working properly from SKP to CAD.

It has always worked in the past including earlier today, but for some reason now when I export to CAD all I get is one or two lines n the CAD file or nothing at all.

I am using AutoCAD LT 2014 and SKP Pro 8. As I say it has worked up until today with this model and all of a sudden has stopped working. I have shut down and restarted to see if that helped. I have looked in the options box and tried different settings but no success.

      Any ideas?

      Regards,

      Richard.

    • RE: Yellow warning triangles in viewport - cannot get rid!

OK - I sorted it out. Right click and render. I didn't realise you have to do this sometimes when Auto render is selected.

    • Yellow warning triangles in viewport - cannot get rid!

Good afternoon, I have a model of a building with several (22) scene tabs. I have a sheet in Layout with 11 views on it which are the first 11 scene tabs. For some reason, the first 5 or 6 (it varies) of the views in layout have yellow triangles in, warning that they are not updated. Rendering in layout is set to Auto, I have updated the scenes in Sketchup several times and saved the model in Sketchup and then updated the reference in Layout. I have changed the rendering between hybrid and raster to see if this makes any difference as I read in another thread that it can help. Not sure what else to try.... Anyone have any ideas? I have spent a couple of hours on it and don't want to waste any more time so I am calling out for help.

      Thanks for your time.

    • RE: Construction & Working Drawings - Discussion

Thank you both for your reply and the hatch plugin looks useful.

I have been creating a section cut slice from the competed model and then adding the detail such as cavity walls, tiles, etc. Is this generally considered the best way to do it?

I have found that creating 2D symbols from CAD blocks works well for doing the floor plan in 2D from the 3D section cut without adding a lot of weight to the model.

I have started my next project and it is going quicker already - I guess it will keep improving.

    • RE: Construction & Working Drawings - Discussion

This is my first attempt at a construction drawing for a simple UK lean to extension. I am quite pleased with it but it took a long time to achieve though with practice maybe I can get the time cut down. I find that I get bogged down with the outliner and it takes time to manage my groups. I need to make more use of layers maybe.

I tried to create a hatch pattern rather than using colours to identify the brick and blockwork but it crashed each time I applied it. Not sure why that was.

I cannot decide whether to just model the exteriors in SKP to give the 3D and go back to CAD for the 2D plans or whether to stick with it and try to increase productivity.

    • Hidden lines on switched off layer showing through

      Hello again,

I have a model of a house. I have applied a section cut face between the ground and first floor so that I can take away the upstairs and look at the ground floor with a neat cap covering the wall thickness and hiding the geometry within the wall. The visible edges on the external face of the wall are hidden so it does not show on elevation. The edges of the cap are visible so that there is some edge definition when viewing the model. The cap is on its own layer which is switched off on elevations so that the edges cannot be seen.

In layout it appears that some, maybe the inner (300mm deep into the wall) edges of the section cut face are showing up. This only happens in hybrid and Vector mode. In raster mode the model displays as intended. If I click into the model in Layout, the lines disappear.

Any ideas why this would be?

      Thanks

      Richard.

    • RE: One model or two, or three or four

Thanks. Yes I have always found Layout very frustrating and it is only because I have bought a new computer with a lot more RAM that I am even considering it.

I think I am getting there with a system that works for me - a few more weeks and hopefully I will have it cracked.

      Thanks for your reply.

    • One model or two, or three or four

      Hi,

I work in the UK and a lot of my work is extension and alteration work on houses and commercial buildings. I just wondered from others that do similar work, how you set up your model(s). I have used SKP for about 4 years doing just exteriors so I have a pretty good grasp of using it though there is also a lot still to learn as I have discovered trying to do fully detailed models of buildings.

I have tried to keep everything in one model but it has become quite complicated. I have the original house modelled on the site. The 'original' house is one group. I have then copied that group, called it 'proposed' and made the changes so that I have two models.

I am in the early stages of using SKP for the whole process through to construction drawings so I wondered how others did it. I have seen the Nick Sonder videos. My current thinking is that it might be best to have 4 models - one model for the original site, one model for the original building, one for the altered and extended building and one for the altered site if necessary. The building models can then be imported into the respective site models.

What do others think? Be good to hear from you.
