just a mock up model before i began something a bit more detailed (same version just a bit more realistic hopefully) for an observatory with visitors centre.

Its built into a mountain side bearing off a main central column forming a ventilating cowl that integrates all the services for the building

Accomodation for the guests bear off the framework that cantilevers from the mountain face, and from the cowl, with smaller pods for accomodation slotting into the framework.

The rest is all a bit sketchy- seems quite sci-fi ish at the moment but will try to clear up and make a little less rigid in the final build

      c & c welcome

    • RE: Trying out some new techniques

I love the overall effect, very clean and precise- i thought it might be cool to empasise the photomontage effect, which i sometimes do with my work by highlighting certain areas, mainly to draw the viewer to particular details or away from the not so nice stuff....

i had a go with your image, hope u don't mind:

    • RE: Train Station (WIP)

Is the current building definately being demolished? the reason why i ask is because i kinda like the shape with the cantilevers and the balconies. i also think it works nicely because of the asymmetry of it, which is why i think each design would be better if each side respectively responded to the site/conditions of the site, i like your idea of having a complete transparency through the station because it means people can clearly see when trains are there but is there a way this can be used celeverly rather than glazing the entire facade?

kinda open ended comments but hopefully a couple of things of use

      good luck!

The detail is amazing on this model, how long did it take u to do is the terrain 100% accurate?

    • RE: Mech (Kerkythea render)

Looks good i like it, the only thing i would say is to loosen it up a bit, at the moment it looks quite rigid also a lot of the beauty in the mechs that i have seen in 3d warehouse comes from the level of detail put into them.... so the design itself looks very simple but all the detail is indicative of how it would function making it a lot more interesting

      keep up the good work

Looks awesome, i especially like the reflection of the person in yellow on the wall although its kinda weird with the column perspective, its good the way you have a less crowded (people group)and has been cool to seen a pro's process through images, nice one!

I'd second that, im moving up to newcastle to start a placement and stopped off there for a few hours and was pretty impressed by how much it had changed (i hadnt been there for a few years) although newcastle is a favourite for me (in terms of a good looking city)

    • RE: Importing 3D model into Adobe Photoshop

hi, i had a similar problem but used photoshop to find the best alignment for the model, save a JPEG of the image and then photomatch it with the SU model to get the orientation right just so i could get a nie high res shot with shadows etc...

its not the solution but it might save you a bit of time

    • RE: Uni Project SU output / Renders

Hi cheers for the comments, much appreciated....

The main building is supposed to act as a mixed use project forming a town centre within the complex. The smaller building within the bridge is a community Centre

There was an additional set of drawings (just line drawings that were weighted in autocad) to help guide around the project.

The Sketchup modelling was around a week mainly due to changes i made as i modelled the project, the first facade did take a while to figure out (in terms of the most efficient way to model it without too much lag) i've posted an example SKP of one of them (each one is different but just modified versions of the original) a lot of the 'follow me' tool was used.

      TEXTURED ENTRANCE FACADE

My computer did survive but i had to seperate the project into two files and merge them when necessary or delete/hide elements that you wouldnt see when rendering.

The tutors did like it, but i had a lot of problems when it got round to detailing to any realistic level

      Heres some more pics

    • RE: [REQ] Multiple copy

I think i know what u mean but i dont think SU accomodates for it, my solution would be:

      •select the chair

      •switch to move (m)

      •click the base point

      •tap Ctrl to toggle copy/move

as for copy with base pouint... think there is probably a ruby script somewhere

    • Uni Project SU output / Renders

Hi, haven't had much of a chance to post new work up for a while so heres some of my latest stuff from a uni project.

      SU MODEL RENDER

The proposal shows a new facade system added to a large old mill building connecting to a new pedestrian footbridge with integrated community centre and market promenade.

      FINAL PROJECT RENDERS

      1. Raw Su render put onto photomontaged background of site

      2. Section (raw su render without edges) with people/trees added in photoshop

      3. Artlantis render onto background image

      4. Artlantis + Su composite Render of Community Centre

If its of any interest ill put up some more SU output of the model file

Looking good, gotta say that i prefer the white card effect of the 3 pictures than the overall textured model, can u put up some textured images with edges visible?

      good work!

    • RE: Transparent or absent faces??

hi, two things i can suggest:

      1. connect the midpoints see if this closes the face the lines may not all be on hte same plane

2)makefaces.rb available from smustard, if the lines connect then this shouold be able to create a fix (its usually my way of checking at least)

      hope this is of use...

"some of the country's most prominent conservative opinion journals and news sites have published stories and blog posts denouncing Google for subtly pushing a liberal worldview in its doodles while steadfastly refusing to commemorate patriotic or religious holidays."

did they even fact check that last sentence?

      @unknownuser said:

each of the three have a date set between March 2008 and May 2008 - contrary to what is shown on the home page.

and what is on the brief itself, i was a bit surprised that they were doing this after the slander/spam from the previous ones

just in case anyone wanted to have a look at what the specific brief is ive attached itLOS- brief 1.pdf
