There's plenty of people in Europe who are religious without believing Satan is real. They consider him a mere concept, a ficticious personification of all things evil. (And I think Rome does too, at least officially.)

Really? That's interesting. How long before Rome reclassifies God as a 'ficticious personification of all things good' I wonder. πŸ˜’

I do find it utterly baffling that people who, in every other aspect of their lives appear to be normal, intelligent, well-adjusted rational individuals (often, frighteningly, in positions of influence and responsibilty) can still subscribe to all this nonsense.

      Ho hum.

This is from one of the comments following the article: "It seems 62% of Americans still believe in 'The devil'.

      That ain't true, is it? ❓ Can't be! 😲

Afraid to say I've heard a similar statistic.

Kinda goes hand-in-hand with belief in God I suppose... πŸ˜‰

      Truly worrying. πŸ˜’

igor: The blocks stop just below the top edge of the frame. There is a metal grid here from which they are suspended. White fabric is stretched across the top of this, and back-lit.

    • RE: Watchtower... WIP

Thanks Alex. Yes, it is looking a bit over-saturated in parts. I'll work on that.
This was a SU model. I roughly (and I mean roughly!) applied some basic textures in 3dsMax, and lit them from a single source - just to establish the basic shadow areas. Then into PS, where most of the textures were re-painted, layered etc - only tiny bits of the Max render are still visible. Would almost have been easier to go straight from SU to Photoshop, but the Max renders gave a good guide for the texture wrapping around the cylindrical shapes.

Will keep working on this and post progress...

Beautiful work. It's not about the software - this is artistry, pure and simple.

    • RE: Looking for Ideas

Actually Dylan, I'd probably use the top (b+w) photo of the statue, as this seems to have been shot from a lower view-point, so would be better suited to showing the statue on top of the pillar, as viewed from ground-level. Also, it's a lot easier to blend a 3D model into a black and white photo - as you only need to match the tonal range, not the colours.

Perhaps apply some gaussian blur to the branch and the plants at the bottom left - to fake a depth-of-field effect, and de-emphasise the branch...? Regardless, really nice work. πŸ‘

    • Going to the moon with Google.

Thought it was time to show what I've been up to.

I was fortunate to be approached by the Xprize Foundation, to produce visualisations of the entries in the Google Lunar Xprize. You can see the results here:

http://www.googlelunarxprize.org/lunar/teams (click on the team logos to see the visuals).

And one visual was picked up by the New York Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/22/business/22space.html?_r=1&scp=1&sq=lunar++google&st=nyt&oref=slogin

All vehicles were modelled in SU, before rendering in 3dsMax.

So, a project for Google, using Google software... Perhaps Google would be interested in using this as a case-study ? πŸ˜‰

    • RE: Politics Forum....

Hi Eric: I can understand the logic of splitting off the political content. However, the result seems to have been a sudden explosion in the number of political threads. Sure, I don't need to read them, but, for me, they taint the entire forum.

      All the best,

      Andy.
