Read, please , the entire Bible and you WILL BE CONVINCED!
      Cornel

Make you a deal Cornel: I'll read the bible, you read Darwin, Sagan and Dawkins, and we'll reconvene in a couple of months.

      Except that would be pointless.

Because whilst I could approach the bible with an open but critical mind, you are clearly not capable of reciprocating. Which is a great pity.

Also, everyone: isn't it a very narrow view of Christianity that disallows the acceptance of Evolution? ?

Tom - really important issue you've raised there. The liberal Christian church has been tying itself in knots trying to incorporate evolution into its belief system. I don't see how they can:
Christians believe that the Bible is the word of God; the Bible clearly states that the earth, and all life upon it was created in seven days. Evolution contradicts this completely, as does the geological record. The two are utterly incompatible, and cannot both be correct. For my part I prefer to 'believe' the unequivocal and ever-growing evidence that science continues to reveal, rather than the obscure teachings from two millenia ago.

      Cornel:

Sorry, fella - you are wrong. This is an unsubstantiated story that has been perpetuated by the Christian far-right. And repeated ad-nauseum by people like you ๐Ÿ˜‰ I urge you to read 'The God Delusion' by Richard Dawkins for a more balanced version of the story.

      Modelhead is spot-on.

The past couple of years have seen an explosion in the number of people offering visualisation services - and the majority are crap.

Those who can actually deliver quality work shouldn't be afraid to charge a top rate for doing so.

And also, tailor your rate to the industry you are working for. For example, I charge a lot more to an aerospace company than to a small interior designer - because I know the market can stand it.

      Amen to that (irony intended)

Can I just add the wonderful, and much missed Douglas Adams to that list.

      My favourite quote of his:

"Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?" ๐Ÿ‘

Gaganraj: thanks for such a thorough critique - genuinely appreciated ๐Ÿ˜Ž

You're absolutely correct. Initially this was going to be a very rough layout for a more finished piece, but I liked the way it was going, and so worked it up a little more than I originally intended. The original horizon was about a third of the way up the frame, but kind of crept up as I worked more on the shanty town. Likewise, the perspective got a little messed up along the way ๐Ÿ˜ณ
I'll probably go back to the origial reference images and work up a more polished version.

      Thanks again,

    • Latest work.

Following on from my last thread - http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=81&t=11865 , this image is another from the same series. The large pillars etc from SketchUp, everything else in Photoshop.

      Thanks Guys.

Tom: Caracus was one of the places I looked at when collecting reference material for this - must have been quite an experience.

Remus: agree totally about the depth issue. I've added a quick atmosphere layer to the image below, which I think helps a little....

      Thankyou Jon.

Big fan of the post-apocalyptic stuff too ๐Ÿ˜‰ This is part of a series I'm working on. The idea is a near-future scenario where rich and poor are forced into ever-closer proximity, shiny super-skyscrapers being built in the middle of, even on top of slums... A city of shocking contrasts. ๐Ÿ˜„

Very much a WIP, with a lot of rough edges - so apologies in advance.
Just a little SketchUp in this one. The big collapsed stacks of shipping containers: modelled and textured in SU, then 'dropped' using sketchy physics to create the chaotic arrangement.
Everything else montaged, combined and painted in Photoshop.

      Andy.

As a professional geographer do you think I could lose my job for holding such 'beliefs'? (not that I do, mind you!)

Assuming it is flat, what does this mean about heaven and hell in the traditional sense (God above, Devil below)? I'd be curious to see how many flat-earthers are religious.

It's no more ridiculous to believe in a flat earth than in a supreme supernatural being, surely? Both ancient beliefs, unsupported by any evidence?

To sum up my own thoughts on religion: weird, but ultimately I have no problem with it. You think God looks after you? Good for you! What I do have a problem with, however, is the entanglement of religion and politics. It's a growing trend, I think, in various parts of the world. In the US especially, the religous right seems to be gaining a lot of momentum.

That, quite frankly, scares the cr*p out of me. (For once, I am NOT being ironic.)
