Hello All,

I am trying to make photo realistic face-me components. Is there a way to bring in an image to SketchUp without a white background?

I have .psd files that have no background. Is there a format I should be saving it to in order to import just the image? Thanks for your help

I am a graduate student studying the the use of 3d software as a participatory tool for engaging communities in the design process.

I have been looking for journal articles on the subject and have found little reference to SketchUp. Obviously it is a relatively new program, but it's basic controls are intuitive and easily instructive for model manipulation.

Does anyone out there have a suggestion to where I should look for scholarly articles on the subject? There are articles about Digital animation and 3-D modeling technology but they are relatively old (early 2000's) in the world of 3-d modeling software. Not to mention many refer to using Auto-Cad or IronCad as examples of 3-D software that could be used. My experience with Auto-Cad's 3-D capabilities is one of frustration and annoyance and I study this stuff. Cant imagine engaging non-design professionals with it.

Any suggestion's would be most helpful. Thank You

Turning off hardware acceleration solved the problem until I can figure out if it is a video card or mouse configuration issue. thanks again!

I will try to elaborate. In AutoCad when you have an object on the screen you want to select it, you drag the mouse from the left to right a blue box appears and a green one appears when you drag from right to left.

In SketchUp when you want to select something pulling from left to right a solid lined box appears (or supposed to in my case) and a dashed box when pulled right to left. For some reason this box does not appear on my screen. When I drag my selection arrow over an object it still selects lines, faces, components, etc, but the selecting box is not on the screen. I'm not sure if I turned something off in the preference menu or some other place.

I am using the newest free version of SketchUp 7. For some reason the selection box (Solid line selector from left to right or the dashed selector from right to left as in AutoCad) does not show up. Is there some place in the preferences menu to turn it on? I am pulling my hair out trying to find it.
