Perhaps have a good go with D5 free and see if it suits you. If the vegetation is important then TM is probably not ideal - at the moment. It does have quixel megascans though.

Which Macbook Pro do you have? If it's one of the older models you will be able to mirror & replace the drive, which would be the ideal scenario.

I've had the same response via a different channel to the OP.
The distributor's line was 'Sketchup is moving to a Subscription model...Perpetual licenses will become legacy'. The time frame is unknown but probably within the next 12 months.
