Looking for a train model
-
Hi, I am looking for a train model somewhat like the one in the image I have looked in 3D warehouse and megascans but they are not suitable for various reasons. Can anybody point me to a good, free, train model?
-
Turbosquid would be my place to look. Then Sketchfab. Archive3D.net has .3ds models too
-
Ask to jo-ke it's specialist of this sort of modeling!

I found this one at 3dsky but it's not free. Cheap though but you have to hope the obj file works. Looks almost exactly like the pic you show.

I eventually downloaded the train suggested by Gus. Thanks Gus, not sure I would use that platform again cost me 22USD to get a 7USD model
It came as an RAR file. Can somebody please recommend which free RAR extractor to use? So far I have used "free" downloads and yes the download was free but I need to pay to use it, I hate that
Thanks

If you can get the rar to me or I can download it, I have winrar and will translate it to a zip file if you like mate.

Liam,
I know it's happened a few time where I got either a 3ds or obj file that didn't work. Fortunately it was only about $5. That's why I made the comment about hopefully it working. I hope you get it figured out.
I used WinZip for a long time and 2 years ago I started using WinRar for compressed files. Either one should work. They used to have a long free trial. Not sure what it's like today.

I downloaded a free 3d model of substantial size from 3Sky and tried the following with the obj file.
-
Import with Sketchup's obj importer. Locked up Sketchup, i.e. not responding.
-
Used SimLab's importer. Works but parts of the model were missing or damaged.
-
Imported obj file into Blender then exported Collada file (dae). Import dae file in Sketchup. Works.

Any of these work?

Yes, nice work mate. The red one would work, where did you find them, and in what format? I did find one in megascans that if I copy it and put it back to back may work, but that one looks great
-
The red one is right here from 3D Warehouse:
I changed the material to red.
The trick to finding a lot of models in 3D Warehouse is to search a keyword + "3DWarehouse" in Google images. 3DWarehouse's search engine is practically useless. And in this case I translated "train" to Chinese which is η«θ½¦. You can use other languages to expand your search too which will result in finding more models sometimes.

Thanks Gus. I never or hardly ever search using 3D whorehouse ans use your method, but I missed this one perhaps because of the original colours
