I installed your latest release on sketchupmake2017 and can not use it as it is unsigned...

Unsigned does not make it unusable unless you set the loading policy to prevent it.

Please update your profile. It says you are using Sketchup 8.

Thank you for your reply, however, I do I know or turn off this loading policy? So I won't have any issues?? And I have updated my profile, thank you!

      Cheers Mate! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

I presume you mean, "I do not know how to turn off this loading policy." Is that correct. Go to Window>Extension Manager and click on the gear icon in the upper right corner. Choose Unrestricted for the loading policy. Restart SketchUp.

          Hello Samuel/folks,

It appears that I am having the same issue with converting models, I looked at previous posts but still can't make sense of it all; as the file I downloaded from the warehouse was a 2017skp I tried to reduce the size but kept getting the same error messages as above.

I then exported the original skp file to 3ds and tried it again and got the same error message, as it looks like UI is still looking at this file as an obj and not a 3ds import. Is there a video/fix to this ongoing issue or am I just missing something!? ๐Ÿ˜ฎ ๐Ÿ˜•

          Cheers! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

            Hello Mike,

Don't mind about OBJ ๐Ÿ˜‰ It's used as intermediate format during process...

Could you please provide us the link to the tank you're trying to simplify?

Did you try with other models?

              Hello Samuel,

Here is the link to the Panther, and no I haven't tried your extension on any other model as of yet as I was immersed in this model at the time of my postings; but I will try it again soon.

              Cheers Mate! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

                Hello Samuel,

Were we able to find out anything on this model? or do I need to download something similar and try that route?

                Cheers Mate!

                  Hello Mike,

On my Windows 10 computer with SketchUp 2017, process hangs at 50% when plugin imports simplified "Panther" model. So yes, I suggest you to try with other models.

Samuel - I have had a great deal of difficulty importing obj files into Sketchup. Here are two examples of error messages. Can you help? I tried to upload the obj files but I couldn't. Thanks.

@BklynBoy, could you please upload these OBJ files somewhere? This way I could also try on my PC.

                        Hello Samuel.

I'm sorry but I am having another issue with your importer and need your advice, I recently bought some models from Turbosquid and downloaded/saved them as obj files which thankfully I can convert them over with your wonderful extension; however when I try to convert the models your extension seems to only use some textures and not all of them. ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

So should/can I upload the mtl files when I am converting these models? ๐Ÿ˜ณ ๐Ÿ˜Ž

                        Cheers Mate

                            Hello Samuel,

First, thanks for the plugin, the idea is very cool.

The only problem I encountered is that when I try to reduce the polygon count, instead they will increase (together with the size of the 3D model) and it's the opposite result of what I'm trying to achieve. What do you suggest?

                            Face count before reduction: 261609
                            Face count after reduction: 4544015

                            My target was 80000

Samuel, thanks for creating and sharing this plugin.
Question: is it possible to to implement the original scale, units and origin respect (in fbx at least)?

                                Hello Autumn Wind,

Try to start with a greater target (eg. 200000) then decrease...

I don't think so... ๐Ÿ˜• The scale is lost during model conversion. I'd study the question if I find the time ๐Ÿ˜‰

If you use the PluginStore you login, find and download an RBZ archive for an extension.
Typically you save it in your Downloads folder.
In SketchUp use the Extension Manager and in its dialog use the Install... button, select the RBZ and it auto-installs for you...

Alternatively, if you have the SketchUcation Toolset installed then you find an extension's entry in its ExtensionStoreยณ dialog [red toolbar button opens that] and click the button against its entry in the dialog to install it automatically... [essentially skipping the need to manually download an RBZ file...]

                                          Hello
Thank you very much for this plugin.
But I also have a problem with sketchup 2017, unable to import an obj, yet I have given the permissions.
                                          A miracle solution ?? ๐Ÿคฃ

                                            Find the folder C:/ProgramData/Universal Importer/
                                            Select its icon - select it and right-click > context-menu > Properties > Security > Edit...
Ensure that every entry listed has FULL permissions set...
                                            OK to save changes.
Thereafter you should be able to read/write/delete files in that subfolder or its tmp folder...
