Thanks Guys,
Been a crazy week so not much progress on the tug, but the hull interior walls and partitions are in, Engine room and steering room are ready for details to be added, redid the subsurf on the azimuth as I wasnt happy with the shape ( misread the blueprints )
Been working on the powerplants, here are some stats you can relate to vs. your car:
Displacement Car: +-2.0L
Displacement Tug: 148.0LEngine Dry Weight Car: +- 120kg
Engine Dry Weight Tug: +- 19000kgEngine Power Car: +- 140hp
Engine Power Tug: +- 3634hpThe size is clear in the images shown below, and to top it off she has 2 of them!
Images were rendered in Substance painter after I did a quick UV unwrap and applied some standard materials in Substance. The Engine is by no means complete, its just the basic shape before I started adding the details, model shown took 2 hours to model.

Giant! One of the greatest work on this forum!

Supurb modelling of a great subject
-
Thanks guys, trying to keep the pace up on this one but man there is alot to make! my guess is this is going to be around 150 - 200 Hours before completion!
Alot of the time has been spent on the interior which will only be shown when its looking semi decent, Work has started on the superstructure and those crazy exhausts! Fore and aft towing fairleads are complete along with the aft deck planking and hatches. Engine intake vents are shown as well, im not 100% sure how close to the deck they go at the moment as they are well hidden behine the aft towing winch, as soon as I can find some images or some reference I will adjust them if need be.
This is the new shaped azimuth drive ( shown above )

Really great work...β¦β¦β¦β¦.
-
Tremendous modeling and attention to detail.
So what are you using for reference? I'm assuming you have something more than the two photos at the beginning of this post. Just curious.
Never mind, just Googled it and there seems to be a ton of reference material for this beauty.
Looking forward to seeing this project develop.

Thanks guys, hellnbak even with what seems to be so much reference out there you will be surprised how some areas are hidden, I really dont like taking guesses with anything, thats why many hours are spent doing research on every part, me and my research department ( Thanks babe ) have been searching like crazy for this 10 - 50 (or 150?) Ton Rolls Royce towing winch, and nothing but this low res image on a 226 page pdf on the Rolls Royce website:
Not sure why RR has it mirrored, its correctly fitted on my tug as the real one is.
What makes things even more tricky is many items have been added over the years that are not on the blueprints or on any of the marketing brochures, luckily they are small things.
Progress so far includes many details around the aft towing winch, the winch itself ( not happy with that rope texture, will still be spending some time there ) and details on the funnels

Marvelous piece of work, rock on, Sir.
-
Excellent work! It's been a while since a ship model was posted around here!

Decided to get the Engines completed, im happy with the LOD for these, its tempting to just keep adding detail, but there comes a point where you just have to decide..
The turbo was Subdiv. and the rest was hard surface.Theres a bunch of Decals that will be added later, but I will do all of them at the same time.
Engine is currently at 35600 Polys.

Brilliant, progressing just great.

Completed the working parts for the azimuth stern drive (ASD) and cleaned up the interior walls.
At the bow the area is raised to allow 2 stories, goes half way above the main diesel tanks and then single at the engine room.
