If you use SU more or less seriously you have to keep the zoo of plugins with a total chaos in right ckick menu and toolbar bedlam. In the end it looks even more uglier than this (thanks to sabotage called 'let's keep SU simple').

SketchUp Free (Browser) is not the successor of SketchUp Make (Desktop) and besides of this available since November 2017.

you are absolutely right - sketchup make 2017 is the latest free desktop version -
with 2019 sketchup will introduce 4 possibilities :- sketchup free (browser, online)
- sketchup shop (browser, online, annual lisence, some additional possibilities & options not included in free)
- sketchup pro (desktop version)
- sketchup studio (VR)

I'll have to take a look at the clip later, hopefully YouTube translation technology (subtitles) will help.
I'm willing to give it (SketchUp Studio / VR) a chance, and will not complain about it since we don't know anything about it or if it even will make it into the wild.
I sincerely hope the development energy / funds wasn't focused on something we didn't ask for (and for which a few extensions already exist).
