So why was my post deleted?

Yeah, it was a bit snarky, but not very far off the truth.

It's all right. I saw your original reply. It's understandable Trimble wants to make more profit, but Make was the bait for the final sale.

I'm glad to hear 2017 will continue to be supported. I would really like to buy Pro, but my employment is always sketchy as best (pun intended, I work a lot of short term contract. No choice really.)

So I will continue with 2017 and make the best of it. It is a fine version. And when it is no longer supported I will either be able to purchase it or move on to something else. Blender has been tempting me for years and so has Unity.

Thanks to both of you for the replies. The free on-line version is a pale comparison to the PC versions.

I'm not sure I understand this, but I really only have one concern -- Will I be able to continue use of SU2015 in the future? Or will it have a cutoff date of some sort? Or what?

You should be able to use it 'forever'. There are people still using much older versions - I still have Version 8 installed, and it works fine. Trimble just won't support it, and you may not be able to install it on newer computers in the future.

I think trimble got greedy with the asking price for SU pro. They got it wrong say $300 US would suit me and others I speak to are of a similar opinion. I will not splash out $795 on pro plus paid plugins, starts to add up. They priced themselves out of the market for me. Blender is direction I am heading.

= commercial use = SU Pro version required (pun intented) = Make discontinued (q.e.d.)

Fair enough, I inadvertently converted to my currency. Still twice what I would pay for it.

But you already have SU 2015 Pro (as per your profile info), thus I'm sure if you wanted to upgrade to the latest version of SU (2018 Pro) then you would not be paying the full US$695?

depends, since June of this year if the maintenance runtime is expired since more than 3 years an upgrade is not available any more, i.e. buying a new license required.

I use pro at work but make at home for personal projects.
