      hi there,

is there any possibility or plugin that helps excluding geometry from snapping?!

background is we often get very bad drawings from clients and need to build 3d model on top.. using pdf or jpg as plane and reference is kind of a workaround but it slows down su compared to lines...

maybe anybody has a idea for this problem ..

would be a cool addition for su 2017 if one could exclude geometry or layers from snapping!

Not entirely sure what tool you need to not snap. I know Fredo's DrawAlong tool allows you to disable Snapping/Inferencing if you hold the ALT key.

Download the free D'oh Book for SketchUp πŸ“–

hi, thanks for the hint ...

as i wrote - globally disabling for a specific group/componnent or layer would be best πŸ˜‰

Disable/enable inference snaps has been requested many times but not implemented. All one can do is keep submitting the feature requests. If there are enough requests for something it will eventually rise in priority but otherwise Trimble will leave it on their "maybe someday" list.

What would be ideal is a temporary inference override that is assigned to a short cut, so that on those (rare) occasions where inferencing is more hindrance than helpΒ  β€” and they do exist, regardless of SU skill level/knowledge β€” it becomes disabled only while the shortcut key is pressed.

Given the SU product management's extreme attachment to always-on inferencing, maybe this would be a more palatable option for them (vs. an inference on-off switch in preferences) in providing this oft-requested control.

It could also be available only in the pro version, so that it doesn't become a crutch/excuse for not learning to use inferencing the way it's intended.

I am not at a machine that I can test this, but I seem to remember locking the group allows you to work on a surface laied on top of it without snapping to the locked group/component.

Sorry I can't test it right now, but give it a shot.

I have this in my drawing program (PowerCADD). You hold a modifier key and snaps disable, similar to ortho constrain / un-constrain toggle.
