Bug when saving to google drive on windows
-
Hi all,
I switched from dropbox to google drive recently. I've been having issues saving layout files to google drive. The problem is that, after the first save in the session, Layout has issues doing quick save to the same file, when the file is big, and the save (ctrl+S) is done very frequently.
My theory is that google drive, after the first save, takes ownership of the file while it uploads it to the cloud, and, since layout files tend to be big, it takes a while for gdrive to release it. So, if layout tries to save over the existing file, it does not get permission to save over, until the previous file gets uploaded.
This bug makes me shut down google drive when working with layout, which is very inconvenient.
Anyone else seen this?

Yeah I experience this with large files too and assume it's because the files are locked when GDrive is synchronising.
Now i have faster internet upload speeds its not so much of an issue but it's a real pain at times.

The normal advice is to save locally and sync Google Drive, DropBox, or other cloud storage from the local file. Don't try to save directly to the cloud.

Or to add to Dave's good advice you can use Save a Copy as... to save the file so it no longer needs to sync to the master file.
Always save masters to local non-cloud storage because the auto-backup of sketchup tends to throw the cloud syncing in to some type of weirdness.
Or Try my CloudUp extension as it moves/copies the file there

I get this same problem. My solution is just to turn google drive off while I'm working and then just let it sync at the end of the day. Google drive won't let you save whilst it syncs the file.
Dropbox does appear to let you sync though and has a lot less problem. So you could switch over.
