Trying to Import shortcuts.dat into SketchUp 2015 on Mac OS
-
I want to import Clark Bremer's shortcuts.dat into SketchUp 2015 on Mac OS 10.10.5. In Mr. Bremer's manual entitled"Timber Frame Design using Google Sketchup for TF Rubies version 2.2," he says to go to SketchUp's main menu bar and open Window/Preferences/Shortcuts/Import. The problem is I cannot find Preferences in the Window menu. Can someone help me with this?

On a Mac the Preferences is under the SketchUp menu

Thanks for the fast reply.
Yes . . . under SketchUp>Preferences>Shortcuts I did add F2 shortcut key for the function, Camera/Standard Views/Front,and F3 for Camera/Zoom Extents. Those functions were already present in the function list by default. As yet I have not found a way to add more functions or import Mr. Bremer's recommended shortcuts.dat file into SketchUp 2015 on a Mac OS X 10.10.5. Apparently, only the SketchUp program can use the data it contains as I have not found a way to open it from my desktop to see what functions and shortcut keys it lists.

A PC's shortcuts are written to the Registry.
You can export, then import them as a .dat file.On a MAC it's the .plist that stores these.
The files' format is different too.
Perhaps a MAC aficionado can comment on this.
They might know of a PC to MAC shortcut translator - but I am not overly hopeful -

the simplest thing is to open the dat file in 'Text Edit.app or 'TextWrangler.app' and manually add them to Sketchup >> Preferences >> Shortcuts...
this will show you immediately if any of them won't work on a mac...
I believe you can use combination on a PC that are reserved by the system on a mac..
and there will be some that are already System wide...
alternatively, post the dat file and we can look for potential issues or solutions...
btw, I think Steve wrote an importer when he abandoned the evil empire...

Yes, John, I did. Attached below. Read the top of the file for instructions on how to use it (Ruby source is just text, so Preview or any text editor can look at it).

I just created a new site called SketchUp Shortcuts that has a list of all of the keyboard shortcuts you need. Hope this help!

Nice, Would be better as a plugin that launches in a dialog in SketchUp.
Maybe add a filtered search too.
