Check this out - I believe that Sketchup has Peter Saal and Skooter as the originators prior to Google.

Sorry guys, it was @Last Software that created Sketchup and Sold to Google in 2006.

what I'd like to know is: where's the catch? (architecture)

This is good news for 3DsMax users as they have a decent workflow between the two, however I hear there is no way to export from SU directly or import SU models with textures or collision.

                  Am I wrong?

I saw a whole city in SU being used in Unreal as an interactive map for town planning.

They used FBX as the pipeline between SU and Unreal but from what I remember there was an issue with pivot points.

In the end the treated each element as an insertable block rather than trying to do large areas.

So I think it is possible but based on SU's texture mapping approach you still run into more problems.

Seems like Valve might be doing the same with their Source Engine. Interesting...

...and Unity 5 is also free if you don't need the pro features. (Which I don't.)

Same as before, but now the "pro" features changed, the free version is not limiting the editor's features anymore, which is a big step.
