hi you all, i need to render a diamond studded door handle. i set the ref ior 2.4175 and also refraction ior 2.4175.
the dimond turned mostly black. like normal glasses. i tried to place many small rectangle light in front of the handle to create sparkling lighting effects. but i failed.
if you know how, please help. thanks in advance.

the link of handle file for testing:

      ref 2 of real object

rendered img. failed to create reflections. i think the key is to create light sources.

I am not a Vray user however I would fix the model before rendering, the diamonds intersect each other as well as the handle, they are also not solid.

Like I said I am not a Vray user and do not know the material settings however is there a place to insert an Abbe number?

I did a fast GPU render using Thea and one spot light.

im not a very good help when it comes to VRay, because im still learning

but, the render engine i used before, Artlantis, had plenty of 'jewelry shaders' that would be perfect for what you are trying to do...

its good and fast, just not as good as VRay of course, but maybe there are some jewelry vismats for VRay as well..

you'd need caustics and dispersion enabled. (Dispersion is where you'd set the abbe number.) You'll want to use spot lights (NOT area lights) for more effective caustics. (Area lights are too diffuse.)

            btw, diamond studded handles, really!?

i only turned on dispersion. guess i need to turn on the caustics in the option menu to make it work. thanks for the reply. will post results if i succeed it.
