      Thought I'd share:

I've been a cad user since 1989. I use it for architecture, construction detailing, and graphic design/ advertising.

Recently (last 3 mos), I've learned to use Sketchup. I was very skeptical; wasn't sure it was accurate, couldn't imagine it could handle the work load, image processing, that my traditional programs could. Sketchup was hard at first...really hard, since it was so different from "V....ks", "T...add, it made me uncomfortable.

I recently thought I would change from "V...ks", to "A...add", based on the pricing, thinking I needed only a drafting program, and Sketchup. Turns out "A...add" was more clunky, complicated, and keyboard reliant than I could handle.

So here we are...wasn't sure I would say this, but Sketchup has turned out to be a godsend. I can't imagine drawing any other way on a computer. I'm ditching the other software and putting all my effort into modeling with Sketchup.

To those who are not sure, indecisive, scared that Sketchup isn't as professional, accurate as others, not to worry. Get back to having fun drawing on the computer.

      Jump on...I am!

      S.

            Welcome,

Sketch Up is a friendly programme compared to AutoCAD

My story is a bit similar.

Years working with ACAD, 2D was great, but I was never able to draw a good 3D shape (aircraft fuselage). πŸ˜• It took me about 2 weeks to get something usable in so called 2 1/2D.

Tried other apps but none were either good enough, or simple enough.

Then I saw an advert for SU in some tech pub I subscribe to, so I gave it a try.

In under 2 hours after I very first turned it on, I had my fuselage shape. 😍
(The hard way with zero plug-ins)

I then scrapped ACAD. That was over 8 years ago.

And I now have over 25 plug-ins, but only use about 6 regularly, especially Fredo's Curviloft. πŸ‘ πŸ‘ πŸ‘
