So I'm not sure if I have been searching in the right place, but so far I am coming up empty handed. What I am looking for is a way to remove UVW coordinates from a piece of geometry. I thought Thrupaint or UVtools would have a way to do it, but I haven't found that hidden command yet... The issue is that this mesh I am working with has many small faces, all uv mapped, and I am trying to reduce the file size. With so much UVW info, the file size (28mb) is much larger than the geometry would warrant.
      Thanks!

      Andy

Did you try the material tools?

I think i have a simple "remove all materials" plugin, but i can't find it here with the search. Maybe it has been replaced by the material tools.
Overwriting doesn't work? Even if you sample a material from another object.

But i don't think that only UVs can give you such a big file. Is it possible that the textures are still stored within the .skp?

Did you try deleting the mapping in Blender and exporting?

Download the free D'oh Book for SketchUp πŸ“–

Yes, that works. Though for me, SU is part of my Blender workflow, but Blender is not normally part of my SU workflow... it's usually a one way ticket away from SU πŸ˜†

Thanks, I tried it, but it seems the UV data is still in the file, no change to the filesize whatsoever. I'll see if I can get a good sample file to show what's going on.

Here's a piece of my troublesome wall. There are 2 files in here, one without texture mapping, the second with a texture done with just a plain projected texture. Is there a way to get the 2nd skp back to the same file size as the 1st?

                  • remove materials
                  • delete texture from material
                  • purge all
                  • assign material without texture to remove the projection UVs

                    Cheers! 😍

assign material without texture using Thrupaint did the trick. (didn't seem to work just assigning with regular SU paint bucket.)
