[Request] A one button texture rotate solution
-
You activate ThruPaint with a key then right click gives a 90 deg choice. That's getting closer..
-
Thanks! but it's not really faster than accessing the texture positioning with a shortcut and then using the right click.

Texture a plane, make a component, rotate 90degrees, explode, copy texture and there ya have it, works for me every time
-
For wood grain materials I generally only need to rotate a material once so using the native Texture tools to do it is no real inconvenience even when there are a number of different materials in the model. Once I have a vertical and a horizontal example in the model space, I just sample those as needed for the rest of my painting.

I'm guessing that he wants to use 1 texture, I maybe wrong tho, but if your using 1 texture and want to export the model without the added extra unique textures and so on I find my technic works, sometimes adjusting pins can accidentally alter the scale of the texture and that makes another texture, I don't think I can rotate a texture without adjusting the pins, which I recommend against, apply the texture to a plane, make it a component which will lock the texture to that surface, explode that same component and copy the texture from the surface and the rotation will be what you need, but also bare in mind if you adjust the scale then SU will automatically create a unique texture if you export the model, but then again I could be wrong to what he actually wants, lol

there is no question that it "works" as it is now with the native tool and with the fabulous ThruPaint for more complex shapes or complete objects. I just can't understand that after such a long time there is still no shortcut or a plugin for this little function... Every time i have to rotate a texture i'm thinking about it. Sure, i can "rotate" the texture by painting the faces of an object in the right order or pic the texture from another face with the right direction. I just thought it could be easier - but it seems that i'm the only one
I have assigned the 'invert faces' command to the '^'-key so that i can switch the orientation while i model. This would be a similar thing for texturing. -

I'm only using one texture and not making any unique textures. For 90Β° (or 180Β° and 270Β°) rotations there's no need to touch the pins. Just right click again and hit Rotate and the angle. I don't ever find any need to make and then explode a component either. Certainly not so I can get the orientation as you describe.

Get the Paint Bucket, hold Alt to sample the material and its orientation let go of Alt and apply it. If you preselect all the faces in the component, you only need to click once to apply the same material all the way around it.
Thanks, but my question was not how to apply a material - i'm using SU since v2...
-
Such a common operation. There should be one. If there were a "Texture" menu or submenu, then this could be done. The menu could hold the future mapping commands that TT will bring to SU too!

Maybe this plugin from Julia Eneroth can help ?
You just select the texture on your face and click the right or left icon in the toolbar.
http://eneroth.port0.org/plugins/texturerotater/It's also available from Plugin Store.

ThruPaint includes some ways to rate textures by 90Β° (and 180Β°).
- VCB: + or -
- the small texture edition palette has buttons for rotations

http://eneroth.port0.org/plugins/texturerotater/Wow! Great! There it is... i assigned some shortcuts and it works! Thank You!
(i just had to rename one function from "Counter Clockwise" to "Clockwise" because they were named the same in the .rb.)@fredo6 said:

Thanks Fredo! I tried the +/- thing before, but i wasn't aware that i have to hit enter to make it work!
So there is another solution for use with ThruPaint.
