Need advice on using Artisan
-
Hi All,
I hope someone can advice me on what I am doing wrong using Artisan subdivide&smooth or let me know if there is an easier way of getting the result i need.
I am trying to model a raised welsh dragon. I have created all the segments i need using mostly curves.
Starting with rear leg I have extruded using the extrude option in artisan
When I subdivide and smoothe I get uneven bumps and not the smoothe result i would like
Could anyone advise me if I am going about it the wrong way or do I need to tweak the model, or if there is an easier method I need to use.
thanks
Stephen

Thanks for the link,
I have gone through the thread and watched the video. I still can't get my head round it, although the result I now get looks better it is not what I was hoping for.
Need to read a few other Artisan threads I think
thanks

Have a regulate inflate volume from this very tortuous form with Artisan is not easy!
Maybe with Soap skin buble or Ferrari that will be more easy
As you can inflate the volume following the pressure you want!Just draw your form on the plane!
And put the pressure! Popup the volume!
Division and Pressure are input in the little Dialog box of Su right bottom corner screen! Is that more clear ? Pressure can be positive or negative depending of the orientation of your faces!
here Soap skin Buble a very cool plug!
(of course the result C has the same size because it will be in the same place than the Start form! But you can copy move, resize the result before call the button Generate SoapBubble!!for a collective Pressure on some objects from copy move even resized!
But not from different object Soap Skinned! -
I think one message in the video is to work with minimal edges and allow Artisan to do the subdivision and smoothing. Search a thread started by cotty called Artisan examples, I think.
As Pilou showed, maybe Artisan is not the tool for this kind of work.

here the link for examples with Artisan by Cotty

If I may hijack this thread... I could need some advice on using Artisan too.
I'm trying to model Roundstack by Stackstoves. I'm having trouble creating the proxy for the red part. The extruded front shape keeps messing up the vertical cylinder (very clear in renders or during walk throughs in LightUp).
Also, I need to add lots of rounded edges already just to control the shape before pressing Subdivide & Smooth.
Any tips for changes to the proxy??
greetings, Max
edit: changed the image to higher resolution

The image was there but I deleted it while I was editing my post and uploading a higher resolution file. Apparently you were reading my post at exactly the 20 seconds there was no image anymore..

Pilou, thanks for your reply.
I'm wondering if this particular shape can be made with a simple proxy or that I should already put in a more rounded shape and just use Artisan to soften the result. The intersection between the 2 shapes keeps messing up the end result. I haven't found the right combination of edges and creases yet.
I'm very curious though if a simple proxy is possible for this shape at all so I hope someone of the more experienced Artisan users can point me into the right direction...
It's very much fun though, a great plugin!

Just finished the stove. I tried several strategies and had the best results with the lowest polycount by rounding the corners already before using Subdivide and Smooth.
Still I'm curious if an experienced Artisan can achieve a good result with a simple proxy instead.

Kaas,
I think you would still get good results using your approach if you further reduced the number of circle and bevel segments.
Without using bevels and keeping the proxy as simple as possible, this is how I would tackle the shape:
Subdivision is done with 2 iterations.
The trick here is to use just enough segments and make sure that the block doesn't intersect with the tube along segment edges.

Seems you must deal with that

Hi,
Sorry for the delay in thanking the above for their help.
The original outline was too complex, I have redrawn it and with you're help I am getting the results I am looking for. Many thanks

Hieru, Thanks for your reply and the trick you mention. I'm going to test it soon.
