VRAY is VRAY!!
-
Ive heard this several times.. Vray is vray! . Meaning, in whatever platform youre using it, Engine is the same and supposed to yield same results, or at least has the capacity to give same result as the best vray available in other packages. In many forums, the conclusion has always been. "depends on the artist". How true is that?
Can we say at this point VFSU 1.6 (with the addition of new features including materials enhancement, dome light and proxies)is "equally good" as Vray for Max , Maya, Rhino.
as far as capabilities is concerned...and that limitations will be dependent upon SU itself. The reason for asking this is that 3DS max, being the industry standard (in my industry),I still envy the works of the finest Vray - max artists.

It surely depends on the artist. Some say it's not the tool, it's how you use it.
But even with proxies, VfS stays limited by SU for polycount. There aren't (yet) powerfull plugins like Multiscatter or Forest Pack. Dkendig said that over 400k proxies, Vray starts to chuckle. So there is still progress possible in that matter.
Besides, VfS still lacks some great features, like fog etc.But yeah, now with proxies and dome light, we should see a significant improvement in image quality done in VfS !

Yea - especially with VfS 1.6 where many important features are brought up to par with the Max version. It's why I've always been encouraging people to read the manual and tutorials of the other V-Ray variants. Even though if the UI isn't exactly the same the core concepts apply across versions.

What Vray core is the new beta using? Haven't come around to installing the new VfSU yet.
-
2.00.02 according to the frame buffer.
-
Ah, thanks.

FYI the frame buffer on 3ds max with Vray 2.40.03 (the latest) tells me its core is 2.00.01

i learned v-ray on the demo a couple of years ago. while for work i generally use thea render, i have to say a few days into this version and i am very pleased - feels friendlier (love the fresnel by default!), it's fast and the tweaks are clearly geared towards the user. by the time SU 2014 comes out with 64 bit support - you won't need much else. (i can just imagine another extension warehouse for all the max plugins ported to SU).
