      hi every one

i am trying to import max file (sofa) from 3dsmax to sketchup.
whats the best way to import that file? i tryed few way but it keep
on coming in to su with millions of tringulars.

      what i tryed:

      1. open in 3dsmax and save as 3ds file than import from su
      2. open in 3dsmax and save as dae file (open collanda) than import to su
      3. same thing with obj format ...

and to all those options i make them smoother soften in su to move the tri's.
and use the plug for cleaning up ...
still its very havy and when i try to put material on it, it become so slow.

i should say that im doing that becuase im building everything on su and than
i put other thing like furnitures and lites for render it via maxwell plugin
      with it materials.

      what do you say ?

Saving as .obj, .dae or .3ds doesn't magically polycrunch the mesh. SketchUp doesn't use quads so it turns each quad into 2 tris.

You are better off modeling in SU than trying to reduce a complex Max model.

Download the free D'oh Book for SketchUp πŸ“–

If an object in another app has 'quad-faces' [or larger] and it arrives via other formats into your SKP with triangulated faces. then you can run an 'Erase Coplanar Edges' tool on it to revert any triangles that don't need to be triangles into quads or larger faces.
There are several such tools available - including thomthom's CleanUp [I think]... At least then excessive triangulated faces are avoided - but excessively faceted meshes are another matter... πŸ˜’

do you have only maxwell for sketchup or the full package?
With the full version you can export as mxs from max and then use it as mxs reference in sketchup.
Or import the sketchup scene in max, place your objects and merge the two scenes in studio.
