Missing avatar

thanks

It's an odd one, mine reverted to an older one (I had fairly recently changed it) so I reloaded my new one and now that has disappeared.
It's no biggy to put it back but it is a curious phenomenon. -
I think (just realizing) it was me guys and sincere apologies for any inconvenience. I was trying to fix some display issues on the profile pages (when you look at each other's profiles) and for the tests, I added an avatar to the "registered members" usergroup.
Now it seems that it cleared the avatars for all whose default usergroup is this one. Now I did not expect that (later removed the avatar and what I would not have expected either - it did not put the custom avatars back).
Again, sorry - but at least it seems not to be a bug (which is good).

Hey - maybe it's an advertisement for the premium membership
"you get to keep your old avatar" -
I did not realize it first as I myself have a different (from "Registered members") default user rgoup, too. Just visit the profile page of someone who is online and does not have an avatar to see how the online image shifts into the text. Now that's what I was trying to fix by testing what happens if there is a dummy avatar.
I do not think this will ever be a "Premium privilege" - it is much easier for everyone to identify "forum regulars" by an avatar at a glance - no matter they are premium or "regular" members.

Especially considering how careful you all are about not being intrusive with advertising. I appreciate all the work you do to keep the forum "business" in the background and let the community thrive.

Hmm lets check.
-
Certainly not blaming you, Gaieus. Without the incredible amount of work you guys put in to keep these forums up and running none of us would be able to enjoy using SU like we do. Because your tireless behind-the-scenes efforts are just that, behind the scenes, I think most of us tend to take for granted that the forums will be here whenever we need them without giving much thought about what it takes to make that happen.
Speaking for myself I say Thank You -
Visual representation of a probabilistic distribution. Very minimalist, but very complex.

Now that I understand
but I prefer to think of it as a fuzzy black hole

And there's where the complexity comes in.

Missing avatar...
I thought it's a good excuse to change to something SU like
