Trimble's Forum

Just a question for consideration.?
The new Forum design format sure looks like it came out of the same design studio that came up with the new Sketchup ID logo.
Is this forum independent or a part the new ownership for Sketchup?
Something inside must have really changed as the "SUPER PLUGIN" gang suddenly went very quiet.
Way back this forum was a rescue move to continue what was just plain fun and very special.
I really miss the loose and "sketchy" look that set an attitude as well as just feeling more creative.
Is the new look bad design?
Not at all, but perhaps just not a good and welcoming fit for the sketchers in SketchUpA big and heartfelt thanks to all those who have pro bono supported we the Super Lurkers and whose generous and freely have given help, creative plugins, and just good feeling made the forum of old so very special.

SCF is independent.
The ads [and now some income from the 'shop', ATC etc] are what pays for running/hosting it - the 'team' give their time freely too...
We scripters might have seemed quiet because we're just busy on 'paid work', getting ready for Basecamp in a couple of weeks and working getting this new site tested and ready etc... -
The forum is the same as it's ever been David, it's not changed at all. The shop and other features have been added but the forum remains unchanged in content.

Is this forum independent or a part the new ownership for Sketchup? The new look is a result of 9 months of unpaid work by 2 people. With a programmer hired to make sure all the old content merged into the new system. We didn't want to lose a single post, file or member. That was our primary goal.
The colour scheme was decided last September in Pecs from the Kuler site. In fact the red in the previous logo clashed with the background pattern. That pattern was a noise map with a colour overlay.
The font is Vollkorn from Google Webfonts. The template is a heavily doctored Halycyon theme from rocket theme.
The site was beta tested since the summer by Mods and Top SketchUcators (who are both the greatest).
I'm flattered that you think the look was influenced by SU but the icons were made by me yesterday using default Photoshop shapes. Also a speech bubble shape pack I downloaded yesterday.
The site continues to evolve daily as members make suggestions. If Trimble and SU are involved then they are using Dan, Pilou, Massimo, driven, Aerilius, Thomthom and TIG as sticks to beat the place into shape.
Any other questions feel free to ask.

I think the forum has changed little in attitude from the beginning. It's better, I think as people learn to get along and the technical side is more robust. More offerings to make this THE place to go.
Take a look at CatchUp for instance of what is part of the "new" Sketchucation. As for the design. Yes, I think we all like the Sketchy-fun-ness of it all... but frankly I am ready for SketchUp to be less silly looking, image-wise. People get some good things done with it, and I don't appreciate the cartoon vibe some people attribute to it.
And I don't begrudge the few making some sort of remuneration for their efforts. Who can keep this sort of thing going for years otherwise? It all feeds into sustaining the site.
Of course I've just been bought-off with a generous freebie, so what can I say?

dtrHi David,
To answer your question above. SketchUcation is totally independent. Please note my subject heading. This is the situation.
