If you really must have holes, here's an alternative to Jeff's method. See the attached SKP file. I made three separate components, a corner, an edge and a central section. These are then arrayed to get the required sheet size. Since I used components instead of groups, the three sections can be saved and reused any time you need a sheet with holes in it.

Another approach is to make a combined component (of two children), array that and at the end, select all instances and explode. There sre two examples that work this way here

Or "x12" or "12x" if you wish. πŸ˜‰

Thanks guys for all the input. Logical answers I didn't see the other day. Perhaps just staring at the darn thing (and way too many hours at the computer).

As a colleague of mine often states : "the blindingly obvious."

I really do appreciate all the input.

                    Hi folks.

A while ago, I have made a tutorial about making such a model real quick. You can find it here:

                    Error 404 (Not Found)!!1

                    favicon

                    (sketchup.google.com)

The principle applies to punching multiple holes having different shapes in one operation.

                    The steps are:

1 - Draw the object in 2D, ie, the plate and the holes figured out by circles, polygons, shapes, whatever.

2 - Select all. This select the plate and all the shapes figuring out the holes.

3 - Press and hold the SHIFT key down to Add/Subtract from the selection.

4 - While still holding down the SHIFT key, double click on the area between the shapes. This deselects it as well as all its perimeter which is the plate perimeter and all the shapes perimeters. Only the insides of all the shapes are still selected.

5 - Delete the selection. This empties all the holes in one shot.

6 - Now, using the Push/Pull Tool, give thickness to the plate.

                    Just ideas.

Jean (Johnny) Lemire from Repentigny, Quebec, Canada.

Just a warning here, SketchUp does not like faces with too many sides (internal and/or external).

Why not and what should be the acceptable numbers ? 65 535 as the 3DS format?

I am not sure why sketchup does not like faces with too many sides. Modifications on such a face takes forever. A single face with 65K edges is on the too much side. You can always add redundant softened planar edges to divide the whole face to faces with each one having manageable number of faces.
